I can tell you that it doesn't take six months for a label to prepare for an album's release. Much of the work can be done before the album is completed. Release dates are set before an album's completion all of the time. I suspect Nick's comments are based on a desire to release the album in late Winter (ala TWA) to avoid the holiday clutter. This is something I've been talking about for some time--I was hoping the album would have come out last February. Another thought...if the album has the Rio feel that they are saying, then perhaps #13 has a summer feel to it and the band are hoping to promote this thing into the summer. Either way, I think it's a good move.

At this point it really doesn't matter when they release it, as most of the general music buying public thinks they stopped making music a long time ago and don't care what they're doing. There's no momentum to lose and no label to push them so they can take their time. Hopefully they're going to use the coming months to map out a killer publicity strategy, because they're going to have to work much harder than they did with Astronaut and RCM combined to get this one noticed, with no label and no reunion hype to go on.

I'm waiting for them to cancel its release so they can write an entirely different album in 3 months. LOL!!! Too funny.

Either way, I think it's a good move. Six months is given all the time as the standard amount of time to set up an album. Sure - things can work differently, but that is the standard time quoted by artists, labels, etc. We're not talking about a band that says "we'll have the album ready by December of `09" and who actually has the album ready. Nah. We're all familiar with Duran time here. How many times did we hear that Reportage was "almost" finished? Imagine if the label/management would have set up the album/promotion before an album was actually completed. Quite a lot of money wasted, cancelled press/tv/radio appearances, bad publicity, etc. Did Nick say in the video what month it was? Back in July they were talking as if they album was going to be finished by the end of July, I believe. Nick's video could've been in the same time frame I reckon. Either way, doesn't matter to me. Lots of other music out there in the meantime.

I've looked through some of the recent videos Nick's posted and I don't know if it means anything or not, but he's wearing the EXACT same outfit he had on when he talked about Mark recruiting them to play at Lovebox. And the background seems to be the same too.
He does mention in the July 20 update that they had PLAYED Lovebox "at the weekend". And he said at that point that Simon was recording the last lyric they needed.
So i'm guessing -- just guessing -- that this Aug 25 update was actually recorded BEFORE Lovebox and that the most recent, up to date news of their progress is in fact the July 20th update.

It's good to hear some news, but it's still discouraging that the album's release is still 6-7 months away and that there is still one more song that needs lyrics. I do like that the band gives us updates, though. At least we know they're working on it!

I had lunch with EMI here in NZ yesterday and he said he has just been to a conference and it is coming out in Feb on them! DD have a label AND a release date for their new album - and they haven't made any announcement about it?? I thought they hated EMI.

I dunno I'm pretty sure Mavie1 as always had solid info in the past. This could very well be true.
