IT starts poorly for super-producer Mark... and it gets worse. After kicking off with a subdued instrumental, the pace lifts with covers of Radiohead and Kaiser Chiefs - though singers Alex Greenwald and Rose Eilnor Dougall take time to warm up. Mark tries to show off his DJ skills but fails miserably when his decks pack up. The show grinds to a halt for five minutes, before he gives up trying to fix things. It seems like it's game over as the audience loses its patience but Mark bounces back with banging hit Bang Bang Bang and the surprise arrival of local heroes Duran Duran.
They rip into Planet Earth, Girls On Film and their duet on Record Collection, the title track of Mark's new album. It's a tough act to follow, but The View's Kyle Falconer does a decent job on Valerie and new single The Bike Song. [ b]But the show was definitely saved by Le Bon. you know, after watching a couple of videos of the gigs (although only the bits with duran and simon) i did think that the idea of having the musicians on stage behind their metal keyboards didn't really feel like there would be much interaction with the audience. of course simon saves the day, these dudes have 30 years experience working with a crowd, there has to be interaction. if you just stand there behind your keyboard you're gonna bore your audience to tears. a stage is not a studio.
