Notorious caught Duran Duran in transition: By the time the album was released, two of three members named Taylor had jumped ship, and the LP showed that Duran had lost some of the worldbeating hook savvy that made them famous. But the 1986 record still packs funk-lite charms, such as producer Nile Rodgers' slinky guitars and the soulful "Skin Trade." This remastered version crisps up the title track and unearths some comically dated remixes, including a version of "Meet El Presidente" that sounds like it was produced by Miami Sound Machine. But the real draw is a bonus DVD featuring a gauzily shot 1987 show filled with rakish charm and leather trousers. www.rollingstone.com/music/reviews/album/45342/218745

Is there somewhere we can look up what Rolling Stone gave the album when it originally came out? I remember they were never all that kind in their reviews.

I'm sure someone will be able to dig up the original.

Actually, if I remember correctly, I thought they gave this album a good review.. the whole "mature", "grown up" thing. But I am sure they took a few stabs at them as well, but I thought they generally liked it.

Hmmm, looks like the DD artist page is no longer on the Rolling Stone site. That page had links to the old reviews. I thought they gave the album 3 stars. I did find this comment: Rolling Stone actually went so far as to call Notorious Duran Duran's "most consistently listenable work," but felt the band had lost personality in the search for musical maturity. They hated The Wedding Album though

Although i find some of the posts put up by Tin interesting at times i do wish she could come up with something original sometimes as reading rehashed newspaper comments can be annoying and shows total lack of imagination on her part.

Then I suggest you just don't read them anymore instead of slagging of her posts...
