It would be a sales disaster to release it on Dec 25 - most of the fanbase and non-fans will be busy doing the Xmas thing, and they'll all be broke by then. It should come out earlier in the month when everyone still has some money.

Yeah, but nobody releases albums on Christmas Day. It'll get lost in the holiday hubbub. DD can't afford to get ignored - not that they have much to lose at this point.
I agree that sales will very likely be low. If it surpasses RCM I'll be surprised.
