from dd.com S. Le Petit BLOG October 30th, 2010 My lovely and talented daughter Saffron has been songwriting for a while. Now she’s only gone and recorded a song with her musical partner Benji the XIIIth; this one is written by him. They call themselves XIII and the Brave. They’ve been playing small gigs around the London area and may do a small tour slot soon supporting The Wild Mercury Sound. I can’t stop myself from listening to the song. It is titled “The Wind She Blows You Close” and it brings chills to my skin and tears to my eyes still, and I must have heard it a hundred times. So I thought I’d post the link on duranduran.com XIII and the Brave www.myspace.com/benjixiii… see what you make of it whooosh I posted some news about this on the site on april 23, when the band was still called Benji XIII: April 28, 2010: April 13th is a very important date for Saffron Le Bon, Simon's second daughter, it's the date of her debut with the band Benji XIII. The gig took place at the Troubadour in London. XIII and the Brave were originally two solo artists [Benji XIII and Saffy Le Bon] who have merged together to create guitar led, folk-like tunes. You can listen Saffron sweet voice in the song 'Worn Out' on their myspace page where they also say: "We are based in london and like playing gigs. We would also like a manager so if you would like to manage us [and you manage people for a living] please contact us".

how adorable! must go listen now. well, let me start by saying i love Nick Drake, that's for me just how good folk muisc can be. XIII and the Brave, they're not Nick Drake, but they're ok. They'll grow and evolve and eventually find a way to dress their songs with more than an acoustic guitar and two voices. Edit: not saying that a song needs more than a guitar and a voice, if you know how to use it. Speaking of ND, here is proof (amazing video shot by Heath Ledger): However, XIII and the Brave songs lack that bit more emotion and depth. My opinion. Moreover, Saffron needs front stage, her voice is better and sounds better than Benji's (and no, that's not because she's saffron, that's just what I hear).

I was actually surprised at how beautiful her voice really is - I wasn't expecting that, and I think Simon is typical of most dads - he's proud of her. As far as the music goes, it's not really MY thing, but that doesn't mean it's not good music - I just don't typically listen to folksy/singer/songwriter stuff.
