Hi - I don't post much and don't mean to offend or get flamed but I have something on my mind... Really looking forward to the new tracks / album / single but is anyone else baffled at the release date? Personally I don't see how management could have picked a more stupid time to lose an album than in the last week of Christmas - Radio will be playing Christmas tracks, album buyers will be buying Susan Boyle and Take That and this album will surely reach the lower reaches of the Top 75 chart instead of having a crack at the top 10 if they had only released it 2 weeks later in January where sales are deal and real fans can get bands back in the charts (hell Iron Maiden used to do it on an annual basis 15 years ago to secure a no1 single !) yeh yeh I know - who gives a sh!t but in this day of PR and media hype a top 10 would have given them at least a few column inches of being back in the game and had a huge uplift to tour dates and general good will. Now I fear this will be forgotten. We all know clever release dates can be the difference between a charting album or not. Just an opinion and doesn't damper the excitement for the album but I would be genuinely interested in hearing from management on their decision here.

And I am glad and excited trust me - I just think for the sake of 2 - 3 weeks it could have had a much greater impact and even some genuine excitement for noon fans with the Ronson connection - after all "Record Collection" has gone down as one of the top tracks this last year from people like Q magazine.
I just think they could have waited a little more time and got a bigger result for it...

It would be nice if the album does well but I'm not bothered either way. This album was made for us :-) Let everyone else waste their money on manufactured, X-Factor rubbish.

I agree that it doesn't matter what date it's released. It is a very weird time for a band such as Duran Duran. (not to mention the industry itself) They will always have successful tours but I think it's mostly the core fanbase that buy the albums. Who knows? Maybe a track from this new album will break out as a hit. (maybe not) What always baffled me was the fact that Duran were to pop to be alternative, but to weird for pop! (except for the 1980's) They never quite fit into any standard the crap music industry would have. I think that is one reason I've always loved them. From now on I believe as long as the core fanbase buy their stuff (independently released) that will be a big enough success. The charts really don't matter the way they did before anyway.

The charts don't matter? Yeah right... They DO matter but the fact is DD won't make much of a dent anymore, and that's sad. The music won't get the exposure it should, but what can ya do? Also, just the core fanbase buying their stuff will be a big enough of a success? No way. They aren't going to make anything on this album, its all going to be the touring that will make them money. If the album is independently released, They will make WAY more money than they would through a "proper" record label (even with just the fanbase buying) And as for the charts? No, they don't matter like they once did. Back in the 80's & through the 90's, if you were top ten EVERYONE knew who you were. (even parents) Now? Not so much! It's a fact. They matter only up to a certain point. It's NOT like it once was. The record industry is dead. Just look at the charts & count how many bands are on there. It's mostly (if not all) solo artists who probably won't be around in 10 years. And it matters? It's nice to be able to say you're top ten or number 1, but you can't tell me it's a big deal like it was back in the day.

Their actually releasing the album twice, with the second time having the extended version. ... So I don't think it's a bad idea, but its a good idea.

I am not sure how its going to be promoted in itunes itself, but if it has a banner ad and a front page presence its not a bad thing to be front and centre at one of the busiest times of the year (for itunes). They have time to build any momentum in terms of airplay (if any) and promotion before the physical release in Feb. I am just happy to have new music out there, and see them energized in advance of a tour (where they make their real money anyways).

Some of the best DD (or related) albums came out just before or around Christmas time - 7&TRT, Arena, So Red The Rose, Notorious, even Big Thing...so I'm not pertubed by the timing of the release. Anyone who likes the album will find a tenner to buy it. ;D
