They should have released the hard copy this week and got new items in the DD store a couple weeks ago. My brother went looking to buy my Christmas gift but said "Duran Duran doesn't have anything new in the store so I don't know what to get you".
They'd have racked up on sales on just gifts for me had they released in time for me to spread the word.
Now I'll just be buying the cd and nothing from the store, because I won't spend $40 on a t-shirt.

there are other acts out there- Prince, NIN who release independently and must a good enough living from it otherwise they would have stopped- neither artist has troubled the music charts for many many years
I admit that this is a strange way of doing it for DD- but the traditional model didn't work well last time, so what's the harm in trying something different- it's not like their a big ticket draw nowadays

It would be nice if the album does well but I'm not bothered either way. This album was made for us :-) Let everyone else waste their money on manufactured, X-Factor rubbish. Couldn't agree more. Also, let's not forget that the 12 track album, plus special editions comes out next Feb, hopefully (surely?) preceded by another single, so there is a chance to get more exposure then. I would liked them to play the track on TV, but again they are on the lottery show UK Xmas Eve, playing a song from the album, so that's all good exposure. Jon

I think davidc has a point. And I also agree that charts still matter and that it would be great if DD could still surprise the world with a hit-single. Saying that... I also have to agree that, in the present state of things, it will be very difficult for them to get that kind of attention from the general public ever again...

Now I'll just be buying the cd and nothing from the store, because I won't spend $40 on a t-shirt. Its a bit difficult to release the hard copy when its not even ready for release yet. There is a reason they did things the way they did. The digital release can be ready MUCH faster than a physical release. It takes a bit longer to prep the physical product (booklet layout, artwork to put on the CD itself, then the printing and the pressing of said product. They could have released the digital album a week or so ago, if they really wanted, because it was ready to go then, as it was all mastered and ready to go. I get all that, but I'd have liked to have gotten maybe a cd and a t-shirt for Christmas. But it's their deal. I don't like it when people tell me how to do my job and it's not my place to think I know how to do theirs. I'll buy the cd when it comes out and I'll be happy to do so. If waiting a few extra months to get a cd I want is the worst thing that happens to me this year then I'm not doing bad at all.
