Hi all,
Is anyone else fascinated by the abrupt shifts in tone by Duran Duran, often within the body of the same album?
For example, witness how the first half of Astronaut is like daylight - quite literally kicked off by the Sunrise and followed by Summer - only to give way to the murky darkness of the last few tracks.
Look at the schizoid tone of the All You Need Is Now song - quite a dark, swaggering mood pervades the verses, giving way to the dreamy, nostalgic optimism of the chorus.
The album cover for All You Need Is Now also manifests these tonal tendencies.
I find stuff like this quite interesting to discuss, so it would be cool if anyone has other examples or theories on this subject.
Cheers,
Hudson Hork (aka Davros)

my favorite thing about Duran Duran has always been their ability to write ultra catchy tunes but always have something more nefarious just below the surface... the first two albums and So Red the Rose did this really well... so yes I love it when they have dark and light songs... but i like it even better when they combine the two.
