Great to read these positive reviews for once. This reviewer is giving them all the credit they deserve. He does sound as a bit of a Duran-fan - he can even mention tracks from RCM However I think the reviewer is very right that this time and day is DURAN DURAN-time - they're starting to get a lot of credit for their early work and getting recognised as legendary musicians... hopefully this record won't get ignored, as good as it seems to be...

The best part of the review, are Simon's words.. as they are, as his lyrics, fits perfectly on my life since I was 12yo..the sense of survival, was and is what moves me, and I became stronger as I was getting old.. with the help of their music: "I'll tell you why we got such criticism before," says Simon. "The world of music journalists back then was completely run by men--and girls liked Duran Duran. It really is that simple. But it hardened us. We got used to it. It made us very strong. One of the reasons we're still around 30 years later is we're determined not to go away. We have a very strong sense of survival. And we're not going to let the words of some journalist put us off our purpose in life. As for the acclaim we're getting now, it's very welcome. 'Vindicating' is not the right word; it's just flattering. We're hugely flattered. And the best thing about it? We get to work with all these people." Simon have the gift of the Word.. in the SongBook interview about "Ordinary World", he described it so perfectly, as he knew me so well.. maybe because he is scorpion like me.. J.

oh yeah someone that writes duran duran "D2" is most def a fan ;D cool review.
and simon doesn't get it altogether about the hard times were journos were so critical of them, it wasn't just the girls (that's so chauvinist i cringe at the thought), there was more to it than that, it ran deeper. duran duran provoked the same reaction in their audience as the beatles had done 20 years before, and elvis 30 years before, and nobody thought that would ever happen again. how dare duran duran, these pretty boys? they are so pretty they can't be good musicians, no. that's what was going on.
indeed, men ran the business in 1982 - 35-40 year old men who could not accept the fact that there was another phenomenon in town and that what they had experienced in their teens was actually happening again.

thanks for sharing this article... great review, giving the band the credit they deserve. So far i've read 2 reviews, (pop matters and this one) and both were great. People said the one in The Sun is also good, so i can't believe it!
