Since the new track was free on iTunes, I mentioned it on several other boards I visit...total traffic, over 10,000 members. If 1% bothered, that would be a hundred downloads. Anyway, a hater immediately claimed DD is desperate and has hit rock bottom by choosing this route. He said free material is usually made available by up and coming bands who are trying to get a toe-hold of attention and shouldn't be done by an established band. Anyone else faced this shit. In this place, it sounds like there's a lot of support for the band and the new album, but it's out there, where the real masses are, where the uphill struggle begins. I didn't tell this guy to go f**k himself and ask him why he couldn't slip into something more comfortable, like a coma. Well not yet anyway

The free download seems like a smart move. It doesn't come across as desperate; they actually just seem very confident in the material on the album. The hater dude just sounds kinda dumb. Duran are in a position with this release to try alot of different angles out in promoting the music - and most important of all, the music more than stands on its own (from all the stuff I've heard, which is a little more than half the album).
The masses, having to buy a new single, doesn't make a lot of sense if Duran are trying to win back old fans and new ones. With strong songs though, and giving one of them away - they've got a good shot at selling more albums than they would have otherwise.
Don't let him bug ya. I've read your posts here and at Lizard King and you always have cool posts and good observations. The music I've heard so far is all the proof anyone should need that Duran is far from 'rock bottom'. They're in a good place musically. And is it just me, or do the band not sound more energized this time around? I know they always hype their stuff - but this time around feels different to me......that they know this album is special.

I have seen some negativity directed at the new music and/or Duran themselves. Normally, I'm able to deal but this time is different for me. I finding myself annoyed and even had to blog about it!

There was an interview with Simon, Nick, and Roger on a US morning talk show recently and when asked about the internet's affect on the music industry Simon said, and I paraphrase, "it's rubbish that the Internet has hurt the music industry, it's just changed the way we approach things", so next time someone says that releasing a free song is a sign of desperation tell them that Duran Duran are taking a different approach which they believe makes sense for them and the fans, not to mention the band clearly knows that this move will resonate with current fans and perhaps reconnect with old fans.

Thom Yorke's voice sounds like a cross between a broken fog horn and Brittney Spears' moaning during childbirth.

Thom Yorke's voice sounds like a cross between a broken fog horn and Brittney Spears' moaning during childbirth. HA - That's a good one! But we should go after the fan who called AYNIN a Bolton song. Thom Yorke back in 94' was asked to give his Top 10 songs of 93' - he placed Ordinary World at #7 - so you can't belittle him too much...

I actually like Radiohead (not all of it, some of it) but it's just true! heh. Like Bjork... I LOVE Bjork, but she caterwauls pretty good sometimes... but those are often good moments.

Someone on a Radiohead message board said it sounded just like Michael Bolton No... it was Sunrise that sounded just like Michael Bolton Seriously, Sunrise has always brought "Reach Out I'll Be There" into my mind.
