Much is being made of the fact that 2011 will be the bands 30th anniversary, however, is that really correct? The shows the band played in 2003 when Andy/Roger/John re joined, were titled the 25th anniversary shows. I have a tshirt that proudly exclaims Duran Duran 1978-2003 The tour programme mentioned how the band formed back in 1978 onwards, and then there was the raft of merchandise which used '1978' as the banner. I know that 2011 IS the anniversary of the bands debut single and album, and there is talk that 'AYNIN' will be released in early February as near to the day as ''Planet Earth' was in Feb 1981. Duran Duran played shows with Simon Le Bon in 1980, so that could also be seen as an anniversary of sorts, ie the formation of the line up that went on to make the first 3 albums. Obviously the band will see it as a chance for marketing some more merchandise, this time with the tag line ''1981' ... but I would say it's the 30th anniversary of the debut album NOT the band.

What I have been hearing is that the anniversary isn't about the band forming but about that first single of Planet Earth.
