Duran Duran to perform in Baton Rouge Oct. 7
Tickets go on sale Saturday, Aug. 13
3:24 PM, Aug. 9, 2011
DURAN DURAN, the band that defined the MTV generation and continues to command huge concert audiences around the world, will perform at the Baton Rouge River Center Arena Friday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m.
American alternative pop-rockers Neon Trees, with the hit single “Animal,†opens the show as special guests.
Fusing pop music, art, technology and fashion with a unique sense of style and confidence, Duran Duran took visual imperatives of the New Romantic movement -- exotic locations, beautiful girls and stunning special effects -- to transform music videos from a gimmicky marketing tool into one of the music industry’s most valued assets.
Duran Duran’s ascent coincided with the so-called “Second British Invasion.†Their fame surpassed contemporaries thanks to exhaustive touring, imaginative embrace of new technology and superior song craft, highlighted by classic chart-toppers “Hungry Like the Wolf,†“Rio,†“Save A Prayer†and their first Stateside #1, “The Reflex.†Later recordings included the award winning smash “Ordinary World†and its equally acclaimed follow-up “Come Undone.â€
On the band's latest album, All You Need Is Now, Duran Duran reconnects with the sounds, the textures, the melodies and the lyrical evocation that first propelled them to the top of the charts the world over. The record debuted at No. 1 on iTunes music charts in 15 countries and has been called a return-to-roots homage to Duran Duran’s most celebrated musical panache.
The four original members of Duran Duran -- John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon -- take the stage in Baton Rouge with a brand new production specifically designed for their North American tour.
Tickets are priced from $49 to $125, and may be purchased at the Baton Rouge River Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 800-745-3000, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m.
