I counted a few days ago and from the 1984 available copies only 91 had sold... Sure...O'Regan tweeted proudly that some issues had sold out but that were only 15 copies of which I suspect that the 5 most exclusive ones went to the bandmembers themselves.
The only people who would be interested in the book are...well...us basically. Nobody apart from us (the hardcore fans) is interested in a DD photobook. The reason why DD is still going is simply the huge nostalgia factor that they possess. You see that clearly since 2004...what brings the money for the band? The concerts. Why? Because they remind people of their youth and they want to re-live these memories by seeing them live. Album sales are weak since 1995 (Astronaut profited from the reunion hype but didn't sell that wel either) and the money is in touring and playing private gigs. I know that many of you will not agree with this is but this how I feel about it.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with this. DD managed to stay out of those horrible 80's tours and are able to do what they want and can independantly release their music. What other bands from their generation are able to do that? We should however realise that, apart from us, the general public just isn't interested in new music by the band. Look at AYNIN...great reviews, #1 on Itunes in 15 countries but no real sales. But as long as they keep putting out new material you never know what will happen and a new album does always generate lost of publicity for the new tour.
DD and O'Regan never considered who their customers for this book would be. They seriously overestimated the pulling power of DD to the general public and I think they simply pressumed the fans all would automatically buy the book. They didn't think for one moment that the price (GBP 250 for the cheapest copy...) is ridiculously expensive for 30 year old pics that O'Regan just had to digg up in the archives. Had the cheapest copies cost GBP 50 then we would probably all have ordered one. What the low sales prove is that if the fans won't buy it...almost nobody else will either. And that should be good learning moment for the band....

If they'd put out a book with Dean Chamberlains Arcadia pictures then i would consider paying that money... Kidding! Of course not! But i am waiting for such a release actually, to me more interesting (also for the art) than this CM book.

Agreed! The Arcadia and DD pics and video stills from Chamberlain would interest me much more.

Agreed completely, 50 quid was the price point. They do live in a bubble though and have lost touch with money value, the Vinyl Factory editions were the first 'music as art'. Sadly i hope this bombs, just so it sends a message to the band that they need to appreciate the pockets of the faithful.

Most definitely well put. I love them; but I'd rather spend that sort of money towards a M&G and concert tix.

way too expensive for me, besides haven't we got all the photos we need in the Sing Blue Si;ver book??? If you have the money and the desire to spend it on a photo book then all power to you...I don't have either
