26 years if I calculated it right. I remember a friend of mine had the album before I was able to buy it. So I rushed over to his place with a C90 tape to listen and record the album. For me it was a step forward. The album is very diverse. More diverse than any duran album had been. I was 17 at the time. First girlfriend. Growing up. This will forever be the soundtrack of those times for me. Saw them twice in Belgium. The first time as on 20 november 1988, the second time was at the Belga Beach Festival in august '89. They had taken their electric theatre set to a few summer festivals and I was lucky to see them there. Good times

Greatest album ever due to its diversity, so creative. Happy 26th my favourite!

Very strong album. I actually preferred the back half of the album. Ethereal, emotive, esoteric. I thought the original mastering was a bit weak. I remember the album being too thin sounding. Needed some bottom end... Especially since a few songs lacked live rhythm section, relying on synthesized bass and drums. Also, I wish they would have replaced "Drug" with "I Believe/All I Need to Know"... But really strong album anyway.

Also, I wish they would have replaced "Drug" with "I Believe/All I Need to Know"... But really strong album anyway. I agree, both "I Believe" and the unreleased "Bomb" were wasted here. Truly great songs; in my opinion, far stronger than Drug, LSD and the two Interludes.

I agree with mattymo, in that the original mastering was weak and thin sounding. With the recent remaster 3 disc package the sound was too compessed sounding and resulted in a muffled sound. I re-eq'd it from the 1988 cd, increased the treble and bass and it sounds so much better now. Not a great album but some real gems "Land", "Palomino", "I Don't Want Your Love" and "Too Late Marlene" are my favorites.

I'd love to know what that mysterious song is, contained inside Interlude One - when you slow it down 50%ish.
That will forever be one of the greatest Duran Duran secrets...

I was just starting High School when this came out. It will forever remind me of the long trip to school every morning. I remember I bought the tape for all my friends that Christmas (they were all like, "WTF? Sigh. I know how much you like them, Mad Old Lu"
I remember how radically different IDWYL sounded from Notorious and everything else they had done before. At first I didn't even believe it was them. It took me a while to get accustomed to the new sound and how they seemed to change their sound so dramatically from album to album. I also love side B, which to me sounds more like them, and of course I adore I Believe/All I Need to Know. I always felt the song Big Thing sounded a bit flat too. I thought the drums should have sounded much stronger and more dramatic. To me, they sound very tinny.
