Well, here is the Cliff Notes version on the Kafe, complete with a song title! The one he mentioned earlier this year was scrapped.
DD14:
• “almost there.” Very, very close
• They write 3-4 albums worth for 1 album.
• Mixing now with Spike that did AYNIN. Gone up another level with him.
• All but 2-3 tracks not done by 3rd week of Dec. One working on lyrics, one not done yet.
• Nile came on early in the process and things that they thought were right were changed. Nile is guitarist on 3 songs, 2 definitely on album.
• Old school meets new school between Nile and Mark and Ben.
• Mr. Hudson has brought more than anything to the album than anyone else. Very open-minded. Very diverse. One sounds like 70s California driving music with modern take, another reminds him of the early Talking Heads brought into today, one is hip hop based in track but melody is much more classical; really different.
• Josh is the constant on the album and has contributed out.
• No album title yet, not even a working title.
• “Sunset Garage” is a new song they did with Ben
Psycho Killer
• co-incidental as to what he just said. Immense American favorite for whole band.
• Wanted to do something in “Girls on Film” so John started played a bass line that Nick said sounded like “Psycho Killer” and they all liked the song so it stuck.
• Will probably keep it
Austin Grand Prix
• Fun to play after so long in studio; longest show they’ve done in a while.
• Used to play something on upcoming album but piracy has created a problem.
Geneu
• Explains process. Removes guess work and tells you specifically what your skin needs.
• Nick is creative director. Did the photography, got creative people on board, Nick designed the store and interior, Anthony Price designed employees uniform.
• GeneU won European Invention of the Year and Best Packaging Design in Britain for Cosmetics.
• Nick has always loved product design.
Frieze London
• Galerie 1900-2000 in Paris.
• Nick visits when in Paris. Last time he was there, they asked if he’d consider curated for Frieze Masters. He agreed right there on the spot.
• Massive inventory but important to choose the right one.
• Would do again as long as it’s something he likes.
• Love of art developed before Duran Duran. If he was good at painting, he would have gone into that instead of music. Cinema as well.
• Life is too short to not enjoy things you like.
Book coming out
• based on Bei Incubi.
• Rory is working with him.
• Trying to get it printed pre-Christmas and out before Christmas.
• Will inclue photographs, Silk screen prints, 7” vinyls with tracks wrote by Nick, movie poster.
• Not based on TV Mania…just a break away.
• Available thru Vinyl Factory.
• Only making about 300.
Careless Memories
• apologized on behalf of the band, all thought would be done 9 months ago.
• Books are finished.
• Time capsule of 1984, captures everything.
• Quite lengthy book.
• Nick looked at it after 30 years, gave him a fresh prospective of it.
• Includes quotes from the band at the time then they comment about them now.
• Katy tried to ask him what would be different between fame then and now like surrounding 1D. He’s heard of them but has seen nothing about them. He was at a part in which Justin Bieber was also in attendance. He actually felt bad for Bieber. He was trying to do his best with people coming up to him every 2 minutes wanting something. Adults, not fans.
• Nick is very happy there wasn’t the internet at the time of their hype. No privacy anymore. Different from tv and radio to digital. No escape from cameras.
2015
• single out, album out, some shows, looking for different ways to approach the project. All of that will unravel over the upcoming months.
• No decision about who is going to put this out.
• Not everything comes out like you want. Like he wanted “Girl Panic!” video to come out at the same time of the song release.
