This is because they are scared to release material in case its judged by the public. Or maybe the songs just weren't very good anyway?

I mean, some of those 40+ songs were in the advanced stages before they got canned in favour of a new sound. As this monster has been in development for what? 4 years? The songs they said were 'looking good' 3 year ago have now been axed. I'm just saying it would have been nice to have an EP of this stuff along the way, and not have such a dry desert; when the band is still very much productive. I agree this must be the first time the band have 10 - 12 great songs enough to release a whole album, but perhaps those 'very different' past works could be on the singles, or added to expanded versions of the album like AYNIN?

I wouldn't doubt that some of that material would be worth hearing for some of the fans (or any new or unreleased material, for that matter). But at the same time, it's hard for me to imagine them leaving stuff in the vault that they would think most of us would be pretty excited about. It's all subjective, of course. But take the extra tracks on AYNIN, for example. With the exception of Too Bad You're So Beautiful and Other People's Lives, did any of the other tracks match up to what was originally on the 9-song iTunes release? I'm sure that some fans might enjoy some of those tracks more than, say, Safe or whatever other song. But for the most part, they were an obvious notch or two below what was released. If those tracks were of that quality, then imagine what some of the unreleased material would probably sound like! Maybe there was a diamond in the rough there somewhere, but yet again, maybe not? As far as the length of recording this album, they've only been recording since the spring of 2013 and are just starting to wrap this up. The recording time for AYNIN took just under that amount of time and went on a bit longer due to finishing up the extra tracks that were added after the iTunes release. So for whatever reason, it's taken them under two years to record what will be their latest two albums. I don't disagree with the concept of them releasing more material. Personally, I'd love to hear new stuff as often as they can release it. But at the same time, I understand these guys are putting a lot of themselves out there each time they release something new. So while the wait can be painful at times (for lack of a better word), I can respect them for trying to put out something they're happy with. You can argue that maybe they were under the influence of what a record company liked during Astronaut or RCM, but that doesn't really appear to have been the case here (or for this new one yet, anyway).

Depeche i think issue the demos with an album, which i think is good idea. Duran are unfortunately paranoid....

Yes, fans love demos. I'm speaking as a die hard. For me, every track of the 17 main AYNIN tracks I have sounds exactly the same quality. From the title track to Networker Nation. Its Simon singing and the band playing. The album sounds unqiue and different than all the others, but I only distinguish between a demo sounding rough and the final track sounding fluid. I like the demo just because they sound rough, like they are brand new and experimental. The final version sounds like it has been played 100 times already. Thats why I also love the Live - because its loose and wild. (although at least with studio tracks they are mixed so you can hear everybody). I thought it felt longer than 2 years. I have a clip from the FansWorld thing he did in 2013. Does anybody know when those fansworld videos were recorded? Feels like March or April?
