Come on they bring Bono back but not Duran? Simon made a shy Bono feel at home back in the day...I like U2 my second favorite band after Duran but I feel they are good and they seem to be stuck on themselves--well Bono that is...a sense of arrogance I guess...
Bono and a few really phoned in their parts...only a few seemed to have sang from the heart...
Sorry One direction is just a poser band--they don't write their own music--they got one member running around who can play guitar and that makes them a real band???--please...I want One Direction to just go away!!!
I still love the original...I am hardly hearing the new one played around here...Only good thing about the new version is Roger Taylor==the other one from Queen--great drummer!
I especially love the long version where we hear Simon and JT and others say Happy Christmas...

Not even a contest. Annoying the CD single doesnt have the original 12'' mix included this time, long over due a release on CD which isnt a Jap 3''.

Bono did his part in studio prior to the "big day." U2 was already gone on the day of the recording. He did it in studio which is how they got him in the video.

Because Bono is clearly visible at 5.00 mins into the extended video standing next to Geldof and Sting and he is on the photo of the day next to Paul Weller: Or do you mean he didn't record his vocals on the day itself? Look at Youtube for Band Aid: The Song That Rocked The World, a 4 part documentary about Band Aid 1984. Really good.

How I feel about this is kind of the same as I felt about the We Are The World remake... I can appreciate that it's being done for a good cause but it lacks the heart of the original.

It just seems lazy that they won't bother trying to write a new song instead of revisiting one that will never be topped. The original is cheesy, but captured a moment in time that only belongs to the 80s!
