That was the entire point of the video. Yes I see now. I wondered why I felt so uneasy about it. I mean, the the video is supposed to be a statement as to the highly pretentious nature of 'stardome' itself. I wondered why the girls werent laughing and joking and hitting each other over the head, and thats because they played the media image of the band - the bands alter ego - the media meme. I'm glad to say non of the band are so pretentous, or at least hopefully not.

I agree. It's not that they should not have done a long version, it's that they should have done a short version in addition.
Think of it this way: If you were trying to get a non-Duran fan to listen to GP, arguably one of the absolute best songs on the album and one of the best songs they have crafted in decades, you could have easily pointed them to the video on YouTube to listen to the regular version of the song. Having the supermodels act as Duran would have been even more of a "hook" to get them to watch. Instead, the long version of the video has the song all chopped up and it's difficult for someone to get the real sense of the song. Not a good way to sell the song.

I dont think DD would allow an official version, I bet inviting all these top notch models and the mini commercial of the hotels and those 2 guys made it financially possible for the existence of the GIRL PANIC video. Though it would have been great a short version, I think shortening the video would affect some conflict of interest.

It's impossible for a non-fan to keep watching for 9 minutes.....if I don't particularly like some thing, I rarely keep watching for longer than 3 minutes.
An extended version with some sort of Night Version at the beginning (with the high pitched backing vocals, if you listen carefully) is cool for us fans, but a "conventional" video would be more suitable for the majority of people.
Not to mention it's sometimes REALLY hard to play unofficial videos (lyrics videos and stuff) from YouTube on mobiles....

For me it's probably less; if something hasn't grabbed me after 90 seconds (I like to at least hear a song's first verse and chorus) then it's bye bye birdy.
