Wow. This thread has just exploded into something that we don't even know is true or not. Personally, I have never heard Lindsey or Ali sing (that I know of) so I have no clue as to their vocal abilities. In fact, I've never heard of Ali, either. All I know is that Lindsey is an actress (LOVE Mean Girls!) and had drug/alcohol issues. As far as I know, she's gotten herself back together and that's a good thing.
I don't know if this was mentioned at all, but I think her problems are what a lot of people (not just on this board but the public in general) have in the back of their minds when they think of her, and that's not fair when it comes to judging her as a human. I mean, John was a major addict of drugs and alcohol, too. He got himself cleaned up. Do people immediately think of that when JT is mentioned? No. So don't judge a book by it's cover.
As for the fishing expedition about Duran trying to appeal to the younger set or selling out, I don't believe that's true. Duran Duran are going to do their music with people they like or are interested in. As always, each album has been not only a step in the group's evolution but a willingness to experiment and not being afraid to try something new. I respect them for who they are and what they do. I've loved every album they've ever done, including the oft dissed Pop Trash, Medazzaland and RCM. I know other people don't. And that's perfectly fine with me because no one can change my opinion. Big whoop if they use Ali and/or Lindsey! I don't recall anyone up in arms when they used Kelis on AYNIN. It's a colloboration between DD and whomever. Big deal...
This is a very premature argument. Wait until the album comes out first. I still love Duran Duran today as much as I did when I first became a fan back in 1981. My life will never be without them because not only are they the soundtrack of my life, but they are a part of me and have helped define who I am in many ways. Age is not a factor in being a fan. So bring it on DD!! I can't wait for DD15!!

Wow. This thread has just exploded into something that we don't even know is true or not. Yeah, it's good to see a bit of action back on Duran Duran forums hey As for the fishing expedition about Duran trying to appeal to the younger set or selling out, I don't believe that's true. Duran Duran are going to do their music with people they like or are interested in. Oh come on Mynick, Duran Duran don't just work with people who they like or are interested in. They work with people who will give them more media coverage. The band would fist-fight their own grandmothers if it meant having a chart-topping single and album again. I guarantee that if you find the most talented musician and/or singer/songwriter you have ever seen in your life (and there are plenty out there; every year amazingly talented unknowns who have more talent in their little finger than Britney Spears has in her entire body are discovered on Youtube and reality television shows), but they are completely unknown in the music industry, and say to Duran Duran you can either work with them, or an actress who is more known for her drug and alcohol addictions rather than her musical ability, and see which one they pick. You would say Duran Duran like Nile Rodgers right! Hell they say they love the man and he is almost considered an unofficial member of Duran Duran. But back in 2002 they couldn't drop him quick enough because, as Nile himself puts it, "I should have quit because they didn’t treat me that nicely. They went to other producers because they wanted to be with the hot flavour of the month. It was quite shocking but I don’t hold a grudge.” (From www.express.co.uk/entertainment/music/114879/Freak-out-its-chic-again ). Working with somebody they liked didn't matter then, there were other people who were hotter than their very good mate at the time. But what do you know, fast forward over 10 years later out of nowhere Nile Rodgers has a massive hit with Daft Punk and Get Lucky, winning awards and going to number one in almost every country with a music chart, and now all of a sudden the band are back to being best buddies again and saying how much they love working with Nile. So it's not who they like, it's who will help them sell records. And if they work with people who are so far beneath them musically purely for that reason, or just because that somebody is a "name", then I'll be very critical. I don't care whether it's my favourite band of all time or my most hated band of all time; if something is wrong, it's wrong, and I'll call it that way. Duran Duran shouldn't, and don't, get special treatment from me because they are my favourites and wrote the soundtrack to my life yada yada yada. If anything I'll be harder with them because I expect more from them. In my mind they are above doing desperate things - they are the almighty Duran Duran after all. Young artists should be asking them for help on an album, NOT the other way around. Any stupid old group could sell their souls for a hit and I wouldn't care. I would laugh heartily and scoff at how silly they look, but wouldn't care. But when Duran Duran do things like that I do care. And I have the guts to point facts out and discuss them, regardless of how unpopular that may make me and my opinions from time to time. I give Duran Duran credit when it's due, and <shock horror!> I give them brickbats when it's due. Sadly it's brickbat time. You want to hear me give the band credit? Start a thread about their debut album, or Rio, or how prolific they were when they started out, or how great they become so quickly for pretty much being self-taught, or how they undoubtedly wrote the greatest ever Bond theme, or how brave it was of them to record a funk album back when funk wasn't the flavour of the month (my how times have changed), or how cool their film clips were, or Ordinary World, or how great they are live, or how amazing it is that a band that started when we were kids are still releasing new music now that we are adults, or how catchy their anthemic tracks are, or how great their last album was. You'll have nobody complaining if I go over the top in my praise for Duran Duran, but if I go the other way and go over the top criticising them then all of a sudden I'm evil personified and not a real fan of the band? How does that work???

I'm not criticizing you, coolbarn. You're stating your opinions. I may have more kudos for Duran than most because I do like the albums most people have disliked and scoffed about. However I can't afford to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars on books or anything else at this point in my life. But that is neither here nor there. We are ALL fans or we wouldn't be here. You basically reiterated what I said in my quote that you chose: "Duran Duran are going to do their music with people they like or are interested in." They were interested in Nile then weren't and now they are again....interested in for whatever reason. I really don't care about in the WHY part of DD's interest reasoning. They haven't had a chart topper since OW and CU, and I couldn't care less if they ever had another one again. I like them for their music...and yes, their looks (I am still a breathing female that still thinks they are extremely hot!). I love what they do on their own time. They like the exposure and I really don't think they're interested in a comeback...because that's what it would be. I would love it if they did, hearing new music from them on the radio and everyone talking about them but that's not what I long for and it's not reality. The media coverage they get is like a flash in the pan. It's over quickly. As for new artists that are out there (and I happen to like Britney, by the way), only a handful make it...and usually not for long. Yes, DD are still going because of their name, their 80s hits and their fan base. I realize that. There are a ton of artists out their now that do list Duran as at least one of their influences. Music has never been the same since the 80s and at least now, there are groups that not only pay homage to their influences (like DD) but also to the music of the decade. It's refreshing to hear some new acts. But in this age of technology, many will not make it for very long, as I said before. So again. Big whoop if they are alledgedly "interested" in working with the Lohan sisters. Lindsay deserves a chance if this is TRUE. Nick and Simon gave John another chance, didn't they? They had Mark Ronson with AYNIN and didn't have a chart-topping hit. They had a ton of media coverage but it was their fan base that kept them going. Their fan base will keep them going for the rest of their music careers and beyond no matter what. I am really starting to hate the word "interested" now.

If this is true it's a big disgrace. It's not because of her addiction problems. Many artists have those like John along with many others. In fact the man I love struggles with an alcohol addiction. It's also not because they want to work with younger acts. There are many decent younger acts and I wouldn't have a problem with it. I think Adele is amazing and would be happy if they worked with her. It's just that Lohan is an untalented mess and the only thing it'll do is make Duran Duran look like losers. RCM is the worst thing they did to date and I listened one time and never again. This rumored album would likely be worse. However it's just rumors now and it could change.

This rumored album would likely be worse. Remember all we have heard is that Lindsay has just got a spoken part, and it's her sister Ali that sings on another track. So I don't think that Lindsay can really ruin an entire album by just one song. The main problem to me is not that they are using Lindsay Lohan, but that they FEEL they need to use her to help get more promotion and sales. Any album made by Duran Duran where sales is the main priority will suffer musically. It wouldn't have mattered whether they chose to work with Lindsay, or Justin Bieber, or One Direction, or any other young popular artist. The worrying issue is they think they have to work with somebody young, as the insider put it, "to get people to listen to their new stuff and attract a younger demographic". You know what attracts younger demographics? Quality music. Young kids love The Beatles. Young kids love great 70s music. Young kids love great 80s music. Young kids love great 90s music. You know what repels younger demographics? Men in their mid-50s trying to act young, trying to make music that they expect to receive from teenagers. Duran Duran have got it so wrong. The more they try and attract a younger demographic, the more they will push them away and totally embarrass themselves in the process. I'm hoping they promote working with John Frusciante and Nile Rodgers, you know REAL musicians who are worthy of working with Duran Duran, musicians who have an outstanding track record of making great music and who Duran Duran can actually learn a thing or two from, and not even mention that they worked with Mr Hudson and the Lohan sisters so as to try and make younger music and attract a younger demographic.

Can't disagree with that. I just don't like how they are trying to attract an younger audience by really forcing it. They will probably never have another top 40 hit but that shouldn't matter. It's not like many years ago where top 40 determined sales, today with so many other options this shouldn't even be something they expect. There have been older acts who slightly changed their sound to attract a younger audience (Tom Jones and Johnny Cash come to mind)but it didn't appear desperate like this does. Then there is Tony Bennett who is probably the oldest performer today yet many younger people like him (and this was before Lady Gaga)Besides, it's mot like Lohan is some hot singer, she's known as a trainwreck and it'll make Duran Duran look stupid. While it may be just her talking, it could be her doing more or more younger singers also performing.

I wish they'd have gotten Grace Jones back to do a spoken word part, that would have been wicked!!
