Interesting list Totally agree with My Antarctica which is one of my favourite Duran songs of all time. Absolute perfection that song. Also love Edge Of America; some of Duran's slower music bores me, but Edge Of America has such a pretty melody (and Simon's vocal melody is actually quite quick, which is what I prefer) that it is another favourite of mine. Land and Palomino suffer from the same affliction; they both have a lovely pre-chorus and chorus, but the verse is pretty pedestrian (and in Palomino's case it is downright comatosed). Whereas Chains is the opposite, it's intro and verse really grabs you and you think "Man, this sounds really cool". But sadly the chorus is one of Duran's worst, so tuneless and forgettable, which really lets the rest of the song down.

Palomino is the DD song no one knows that when I play for them...they always love.
Great from beginning to end.

Palomino is one of my all time favorite DD songs. I have a friend who is in no way a fan of the band but was impressed by, and really liked ,Palomino

I think My Antarctica would be even better if they had used a real piano.

Great picks! I made a DD "Alternative Greatest" list a few years back, with both Palomino & Chains on it (and Land barely missing the cut, as the list was just getting too big, (already way more than could fit on one CD), but it's definitely one of my two favorite songs on Big Thing)!
My list:
1. ANYONE OUT THERE 2. SOUND OF THUNDER 3. FRIENDS OF MINE 4. Lonely in your nightmare (Full Length Kershenbaum Mix) 5. Hold back the rain (Full Length Kershenbaum Mix) 6. Last chance on the stairway 7. (I'M L00KING F0R) CRACKS IN THE PAVEMENT 8. OF CRIME AND PASSI0N 9. SHAD0WS 0N Y0UR SIDE 10. secret oktober 11. AMERICAN SCIENCE 12. PROPOSITION 13. Palomino 14. First Impression 15. BREATH AFTER BREATH 16. Sin of the City 17. SUCCESS 18. needle and the damage done 19. m i d n i g h t s u n 20. s o l o n g s u i c i d e 21. starting to remember 22. kiss goodbye/last day on earth 23. CHAInS 24. VIRUS 25. BOX FULL O' HONEY 26. THE MAN WHO STOLE A LEOPARD 27. RUNWAY RUNAWAY

great setlist, but i prefer the album version of lonely in your nightmare...and i would like to hear beautiful colors, salt in the rainbow, a matter of fact and fallen angel as well..
not sure about sin of the city, but midnight sun and so long suicide if two of my absolute favourites...
not to forget The flame and Election day, as well as another take on a electro set...The Valley is also a RCM favourite..

I have to say, if we are talking hidden gems worthy of Elizabeth Taylor, this is a medieval epic in the making and I love it. If they ever do an Unplugged with Orchestra (BBC Proms etc), I hope this gets included.

As long as we're comparing coolest secrets lists, here's a secret. This is a compilation I put together as a hidden gems collection, as well as a chill out and love selection. I spent a long time finding the order I liked best. 1. Box Full O' Honey 2. Falling Angel (Early Take) 3. This Lost Weekend 4. Serious 5. Palomino 6. Mediterranea 7. Lonely Business 8. Bottleneck (cleanup) 9. Throb 10. Thank You 11. We Need You 12. Point Of No Return 13. Tiger Tiger 14. Too Late Marlene 15. All I Need To Know (Extended) 16. A Matter of Feeling 17. Early Summer Nerves 18. Lay Lady Lay 19. Love Voodoo (Definition of Sound 12" instrumental) 20. Land My copy of Falling Angel-Early Take is a bad one I found on the internet, and I keep meaning to ask/beg for a clean version. It is perhaps my all-time personal fav DD track of all time, and I'm talking about the early take, not happy birthday demo, or rough demo or choir mix or final mix; the one with the guitar warmup before the sticks tap in. An example of a track which was made slight less powerful and special the more they re-worked it. You may also notice bottleneck on there - which is down beat song with a heavy demo vibe about it, but with a loungy feel after a while and quite classy in some respects, but I like the words; so simple and even muttered/made up, but they are some of the best words to describe the indescribable feeling of being in an emotionally wrecked state. I know this track can seem downright terrible is some respects, but I guess its a personal song which I can forgive everything. I cleaned up a good version of this song but it still has the terrible glitchy start from the original (only) recording. Lastly, you may say if its a chilled gem love theme, why not go overboard with Do You Wanna Turn Me on?, or why not play safe with Save A Prayer. Well, the former is too overboard, and the latter has been played to death and is not exactly hidden. It was so hard to leave off american science and proposition and so many others.
