My co-worker tonight told me that her ex-boyfriend was a HUGE Duran Duran fan...and even had a big, glass case that he kept all of his memorabilia in his. I had to smile because I started thinking about back in the 80s, Duran Duran was considered to be teen heart throbs that teenage women went crazy for. You very rarely heard about the male fans! Now I think about all of the friends I've made here that are of the men...and some of you are more hardcore than a lot of female fans! I mean, you are collectors and you're passionate. And while I don't believe you guys refer to yourselves as Nick guys, John guys, etc. like the gals do, you are a huge force of the fan base. I never really thought about this before...but thanks for loving this group, guys!!

Cheers Mynick, all I can say is that I have always just loved them for their music since the first day I heard them. The fact that they were regarded as pretty boys was unfortunate for me as a heterosexual male, but to be honest the less popular they got the more attached I felt to them. It was a bit like "well 99% of their fans in this country have abandoned them, but I have stayed strong through thick and thin!" And that made me happy and proud in a funny sort of way

mynick7, Thank you and a tip of that hat to you ......I've been a huge fan of Music oh since I was knee high to a grasshopper and would fill my time here in the UK listening to the radio , Records , making cassettes and Watching Top of the Pops . My choice of music has always remained eclectic and it would never have seemed strange to me to find weird and wonderful music peices in my collection and I had already collected the odd Duran single . But it wasnt until two things happened that had me subcome to the notion that I was a Duranny . My first attempt in gaining access to a Nightclub called the Twisted Wheel which had a seedy basement bar lit with neon strobes ,strange paintings on the wall cubicle seating and a dance floor with a sound I recognised, In my mind it was Alternative Music of which Duran belonged and I knew I was listening to "Late Bar" seemlessly mixed into other great spellbounding songs . Fast forward a few months more I found my self in side a female friends bedroom and the noise coming from her record player was "Is There Something I Should Know" followed by "Save A Prayer" with the poetic lyrics tickling my ears and pricking my thoughts and then the "Reflex" popped up making me realise whilst I was staring at 4 walls adorned with all manner of teenage girls posters that I was here and now Hooked forever never to or want to escape . And my record collection expanded vastly but even more so in the event of Internet shopping . Thank you EBay lol.........cheers.

I have been a huge Duran Duran fan from their beginnings. I stuck with them through the thin years and have found something I like on every release. I'm 51 years old and a professional Firefighter. I can relate to what Coolbarn says about being a straight guy who was a fan of a band of "prettyboys" I've seen them at least a dozen times and can't wait for the new disc. I have to say I am getting a bit impatient about that. Come on fellas toss us a bone, a snippet of something.

I’ve always had two things going for me that kept me from being considered a ‘typical’ Duran fan: I was male and I was much younger than many in the fanbase at the time. If anything though, the later was considered the oddity out of the both of them! I can’t even count all of the times I have been told “you look really young for a fan” by someone at a concert or a book signing, haha. But I do notice the men out there at shows that I go to, so it’s not like we’re vastly outnumbered or anything. It’s probably more common than you’d think too! For me, it’s just always been about the music. I was sort of coming into my own as a teenager around the Pop Trash era and started really getting into music for the first time. This was maybe the first band that just did it for me… good songs, a vast catalog, and a personality/story to boot. Seeing them on VH1 a lot here in the states around that time helped matters immensely too! Greatest was my first album, followed by the then-new Pop Trash, then afterward I just made my way back in various forms until I bought every album, giving each a few months to sink in. By the time I was done, I was ready to hear new stuff and start attending shows. It took awhile for all-ages shows and the Astronaut album to happen, but thankfully there have been plenty of both since then! Some of the truly memorable things that have happened in my life since then have revolved around the band and the music/shows that have come since then. For that, I’ll always be grateful, male or not.

Aww... I love hearing your stories, guys! I was 14 when I first heard Duran Duran from an album (their first one) I'd received from my British pen pal! The music caught me instantaneously...as did Nick Rhodes. While they went from pretty boys to handsome men over the decades (and still sexy), their music was undeniably the hook that caught all of us at one point or another. It just seemed that in the 80s, girls were obviously mentioned and featured more as fans than the boys. And I'm just happy that you men are "out" now! It would've been nice to have some guy Duranie friends back in the day!

Although the music attracted me the most I defenitely had/have my favorite: To this day I am still a John guy Then comes Simon...the rest, well they dont bother me so much LOL...And then ofcourse visually there is only 1 era that gets my full attention/ devotion which is 1986- 1987. I still live in that era on my special facebookpage: www.facebook.com/duranduran8687?fref=ts

Aha! The first to admit to being a "enter member name here" guy! Great FB page! After I graduated in 1985, I went away to a year of college then life happened. I missed so much that I could have collected but things happen for a reason. It's always a treat to see and read things I missed!
