I've always really liked that demo of A Matter of Feeling. It's definitely Andy playing on the demo. I'm even convinced he's singing from 0:21 to 2:20. I've always really liked it too and I'm also a huge fan of Andy's solo music. However, when the track is slowed down to its proper speed (several tape transfers have been made at various points and the speeds are all over the place) you can hear that it is Simon - no doubt about it. There have been some excellent researches into the Notorious sessions over the years and from these it is clear that Andy's involvement equated to two days in the studio. This was at the end of the sessions - way past demo stage. I've heard the Matter of Feeling Andy played on - its the album version (and a demo of this album version also exists with Andy playing on it). So how can Andy have played on the early rock demo? My money is Gerry Laffy as the guitarist. John hired him at the beginning of the sessions (demo stage) and wanted him to join the band - he also had a similar heavy style as Andy had at the time: To me this too much of a coincidence. I'm sure it is Gerry Laffy and not Andy.

I'm one who used to believe it was Andy on the Matter of Feeling Demo. It's now clear that it is NOT him, but indeed is Simon. Proper playback speed is crucial in analyzing music.

I'm listening to Notorious album tonight - and I think given Nile's remarkable sampling abilities, Andy vs. Warren etc. could appear throughout... Not so clear-cut...
for instance, the power-chord riff on Skin Trade - gawd, I'd put that down as Andy. Did he come in just to do that? Maybe... or maybe not. Record a one-off riff? Sure, Warren could emulate anything - but he never did, did he? Warren has always been Warren...
I'm talking about 2:52 mark on this
My hint to Andy contributions here has been Andy's style during this period. You notice it a lot on Power Station #1... "We fight for Love" or whatever the end title track on Commando...
so based on this, you'd have to be a moron to not think Andy's playing on "Proposition..."
etc.
cheers.
I bet Andy's work was lifted and dropped into tracks he didn't sign up for. Whatever. This might explain the legal conundrum shit with everyone saying "we don't quite remember..."
