That was a cool review, and it was great seeing AYNIN get the full four stars that it undoubtedly deserves (unless five is the maximum, in which case the author got it wrong ) I don't know that Duran Duran have never been an albums band though??? Considering that Rio was a masterpiece and quintessential early 80s album, and still gets voted into greatest 80s records lists to this day! That little gem must have escaped her mind when she made that comment. I also can't agree that "Mediterranea is just plain dull"; to me it is one of the highlights of the album. A soaring tale led by JT's breezy bassline and Dom's fantastic guitar work - to me it is the best thing that Dom Brown has brought to Duran Duran by a songwriting perspective. AND IT WAS GREAT HEARING THE GUITAR SOAR! It screamed classic Duran to me the first time I ever heard it, and still does to this day. One of Duran's finest tracks ever in fact. I also like Other People's Lives as well, and don't think as much of Safe or the title track, so it just comes down to opinion at the end of the day. But I love that Duran is receiving/did receive positive reviews for a fantastic album; it's not often that reviewers jump off the Duran-bashing bandwagon long enough to actually listen to, and then compliment, an amazing record. Hopefully Paper Gods gets just as fair a listening

Good review overall, but I agree with CB, Mediterranea is one of their best songs in their opus, and I also think Other People's Lives is great. About them not being an "album" band--maybe he just means that they don't do concept kind of albums where all the songs relate to one general topic? I remember reading a description a while ago that the first album sounded like a greatest hits because they were all so good. Maybe that's what he meant?
