This thread is useless...I think if someone is positive minded will never let negative ideas grow to huge scale.../so why talk about negativit/it is not a healthy critisim anymore it is just a stupid and low minded fighting over who said and what said instead of enjoying the life I do not know it is just very useless..:/ I agree.... for the most part. The part I don't agree with is that it seems people who don't like the album get slammed for it by some of the members. That's all I'm trying to get across. With that being said, I'm finished with it. The only others things I will ever have to say about the album are after I hear the bonus tracks. I suppose everyone who loves the album should also remain silent about their love for it until then.

I quite enjoyed the new a-ha album. A couple of fillers but on the whole it starts and ends well. I know it got slated on here but I think under the makeup is a great track too. I haven't heard Paper Gods yet but I love the snippets I've heard so far.

Interesting that a post that loves the album is your post of the day... you don't have to be Duran's self appointed knight in shining armour y'know... As for my view: There are some good songs, some very good songs, some bad songs and some very bad songs. The production is not to my taste because it is mastered at a far too high a level so distorts at points (modern production unfortunately) and I think Nick has over complicated certain songs and added too much. Can't hear 'traditional' musical instruments clearly (if there actually is much) as the bass is over powering. Put it this way, I think it could have been a far better, clearer sounding album than it is. And the biggest question I have for them is why did they go into RCM territory sound wise when they knew their fanbase (for the most part) thought it was terrible. Only when we hear ACTUAL instruments did we say "yes, that is the band we love". I'm not talking about being in the past, just in the same way that if the Rolling Stones put down their guitars and started playing the Ukelele instead, their fans would also be missing the Stone's 'sound'. Nope..good use of the English language and word play. Just call me teach! That's another reason why a forum has its uses.. What is that supposed to mean?

my final verdict of this album is just "oki doki" with "meh" im just happy to have heard "butterfly girl", "what are the chances" and "face for today" the other songs are not my cup of tea. I do hope the bonus tracks are better though

I hope Duran Duran makes another album soon to make up for this travesty. Paper Bag is terrible and I can't believe we waited patiently as RCM version 2.0 took 2.0 years to make... I'm just gonna go back to my Supercritical Ting Tings CD and Random Access Memories by Daft Punk... thanks for coming out. Wake me up when Duran Duran decides to honor their long-time fans again, over and out...

I know skinburn is going to agree with you but both my girlfriend and I 100% disagree. We both think PG is terrible, but both absolutely LOVE Cast in Steel. Actually..I ordered the 'Cast in steel' fan edition yesterday. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it! Well, it's more than what I had prior to your post to put in my pipe and smoke, lol.

It's an incredible letdown. Expectations were so high based on the way the band was talking it up so positively...but it fell so short of all expectations. After listening to it a for a few days, I really don't have much of a desire to go back and revisit it. I'm hoping the new New Order album doesn't disappoint either.

I've played it on/off the last few days - I can get about 6 songs I like but overall it leaves me a bit cold- I don't really like Duran doing generic EDM tracks
very different to last time when I played it endlessly for months
Having heard the A-ha album properly I prefer it to PG

It is all about expectations.
Astronaut was a let down. Waiting 18 years for the original 5 again and that is what we got. I was never more let down than with that album. I was expecting Magic- And we got mediocrity(though I was happy to have them reunited)
Paper Gods is a interesting album in a lot of ways. I was expecting more of a continuation of AYNIN and here we find DD going into a entirely new direction -for better and worse.
My disclaimer: I loathe top 40 dance crap and feel that the shit music of today is in need of a revolution of the likes of 1977. It is sorely needed. Imagine if the Clash were a new band right now? It would change the world somewhat.
Back to PG, some random thoughts:
I do think Last night in the City is 100% the best shot that DD have at a top 40 hit in a way long time. Despite not being my taste, it is a very catch electronica dance tune with great hooks. I can see it being a top dance song.
I love PG the song. The intro Beat after the opening is amazing.
What are the chances?= What happens tomorrow part 2(best song on the disappointing astronaut)
Sunset Garage: the opening Riff and beat is incredible. Some 70's Chic type magic in there. Then Simon starts singing. which is good but for some reason the lyrics don't live up to the melody.
Danceaphobia: I think it could be a great dance song in the clubs(of which I have never gone to)I like it actually for some odd reason.
PO: a lot has been said , but I like the song and think it was an obvious safe choice for first single
Still getting used to the other songs. Unlike many -Universe has not grown on me yet as well as faces for today. But I have only heard them a few times so far
Overall I am still listening and formulating thoughts about the album. Broad spectrum of opinions on here. I am hoping DD have success with the album.
We are lucky to have them around still.

But isn't every album DD have ever done unique, not often you can say that about a band! What did people want? Notorious - part 2? Astronaut - part 2? That would be boring
Music wise they haven't done anything like this before - Paper Gods my favourite - doesn't get more unique than that!
