Sometimes what gets into the R&R HoF seems almost arbitrary. I don't like to go on rants bashing a particular band, because there's always going to be someone who likes them and I'm not here to hurt anyone's feelings. That said, I cannot believe that Green Day are getting in this year and Yes are still not in. I'm sorry, but take Green Day's best song, whatever you think that is, and put it up against the full-length version of Yes' "Roundabout". It's no contest. And I know it comes down to more than one song vs. one song, but to Green Day I would say-- in the words of yet another band who the HoF has overlooked-- "You just haven't earned it yet, baby."

The rock & roll HOF is a sham. A committee of senior citizen aged former hippies deciding what band is better. No thanks.

I never gave a f___ who was in the RnR Hall from the very beginning. RnR shouldn't even have a Hall of Fame. It's axiomatically antithetical. Cool IM Pei design but otherwise, who f___ing cares?!1??!
DD matters 'cause their music is great -- to me. My opinion is the only opinion that matters to me. Disco + Punk = The Band Playing When The Bomb Drops. That's the award I would want.
Nice that DD has made lots of money and keeps making music. I hope they never stop, whether I like it or not. And sometimes I don't. But I do like most of Paper Gods.
That is all.

I would be obligated to go to the big ceremony if DD and the Smiths got in in the same year. But I doubt Moz would show.

I swear, from the amount of talking I'm doing about this, you would think that I actually cared about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame lol. I don't, really... but at the same time, I do like to see the musicians I love get recognized for their achievements. In the case of Duran Duran... at this point, keeping them out of the HoF is less about the voters not liking them as it is a conscious decision to remain ignorant of their accomplishments.

just checked with my fellow A&R types at their labels they work at and we're pretty much at a consensus - Duran's put themselves on the backburner in terms of consideration for the Rock Hall. Ace of Base is more likely to get in now before Duran - thanks to the debacle that is Paper Gods. What does it matter what the mature rock snobs/dinosaurs think?

I really for the most part don't care if DD gets in the HoF...but looking at the nominees - Janet Jackson getting in before DD?
I might have to start one of those dopey petitions.

John Lydon is no-bullshit! I love him, I also love Duran. Duran are best known for creating music/visuals that have been inspired by art and museums, they don't need a plaque hanging in one. It would be funny if the Smiths were inducted, I am sure Morrissey would definitely show up (actually, probably if they agreed to serve only meat free dinners and did not allow Mike Joyce to attend) Anyway, he would use the opportunity to slam everything about the imaginary industry. He has become quite the acid tongue over the years, it would be hilarious and probably go over everybody's heads. They would say how witty the man is when really he is about as nasty as you can get, I would love to see it!
