just checked with my fellow A&R types at their labels they work at and we're pretty much at a consensus - Duran's put themselves on the backburner in terms of consideration for the Rock Hall. Ace of Base is more likely to get in now before Duran - thanks to the debacle that is Paper Gods. This makes no sense at all. No they probably won't get in, but not because of Paper Gods. Rather, because Jann Wenner hates them and he has the most influence. As for Ace Of Base, I doubt they'll get in either but that's a weird comparison.

Precisely, Duran Duran is, and has always been, a Pop Group. They've never been a Rock band which is why Red Hot Chilli Peppers, U2, Coldplay and countless others get more accolades from critics and Awards shows. Duran know they have worldwide fans and the only thing they would be happy with is the occasional Top 20 radio hit so they can be a musical force that writes new songs and tours every few years, PERIOD! I'm sure they are content, I know I am after all these years. They are a great band as we all can agree on. I disagree. I think they are a rock band as compared to pop. When I think of pop I think Backstreet Boys or Nsync and DD are closer musically to U2 than boy bands.

I really for the most part don't care if DD gets in the HoF...but looking at the nominees - Janet Jackson getting in before DD? I might have to start one of those dopey petitions. TTT, what do you think about NWA being nominated three times yet not in (but no doubt will this year due to the popular movie)? Honestly I don't believe they belong there. Not because of the question are they rock which seems to be what people discuss. Rather they opened up something that is hurting our society. I get why they did all of that but I still think it did more harm than good.

Sometimes what gets into the R&R HoF seems almost arbitrary. I don't like to go on rants bashing a particular band, because there's always going to be someone who likes them and I'm not here to hurt anyone's feelings. That said, I cannot believe that Green Day are getting in this year and Yes are still not in. I'm sorry, but take Green Day's best song, whatever you think that is, and put it up against the full-length version of Yes' "Roundabout". It's no contest. And I know it comes down to more than one song vs. one song, but to Green Day I would say-- in the words of yet another band who the HoF has overlooked-- "You just haven't earned it yet, baby." I do like Green Day but think it's a disgrace they got in before many groups, like Yes. However the fact remains that Jann Wenner hates progressive and metal and this is why you don't see many of those acts in. I remember last year people thought Deep Purple would get in because they were finally nominated but nope. Yet Deep Purple is the band all the metal bands mention because they were one of the first harder rock bands to become popular. I've mentioned this before in another thread but I know members of a group in the hall of fame. It can be questioned whether they belong there because they aren't that well known, as least now. Oh sure they were the basis of a film and my mom will point them out on the radio because my parents attended high school with them but I don't know if the general population knows them. Talking to them about it they become very proud but we are talking elderly black men (most are deceased now actually)who will proudly show their statue. They told stories that were so amazing. That's why when I think of who should be there I think of members discussing this.

As DD did with new wave. No to Janet however.

I know I shouldn't look at that and normally don't but with them I kind of do. It's not because I dislike them (I do like some of their stuff)and do like a lot of rap. I do think Janet Jackson is very overrated but predict she will get in because of her name. I also predict Whitney Houston will as well because she's dead.
