I haven't seen DD for about 10 years, and enjoyed tonight's performance. Everyone looked like they were having fun, and the energy level was high. Simon sounded great, John was bouncing around, Dom rocked it on many songs. He has his own style that worked well. I'm proud to see them so happy, and all the new songs worked well live, even Dancephobia. Sadly, they ran out of time and could only encore with Rio. I wonder if YKMWS was planned?

Hi
I was there as well.
DoubleDs posted on his facebook page his review of the Duran show in San Diego. (It is on the lizard king site if anyone wants to see it). I agree with him - as I had the same reaction at the Hollywood bowl. They were on.
I was not sitting in the 1st section. But the second section 2nd row. There is this ledge in front of us that separates the 1st and 2nd section and a pathway before the ledge. Would you believe Simon walks into the audience and jumps on the ledge during What are the Chances. I am like - holy shit - he is right in front of me. It wasnt that big of a deal - as I met him before - but still - holy shit. You should have seen the faces - pure astonishment and excitement. He made it around the entire ledge to give everyone a view (I think). He sang the song effortlessly - without any strain to his vocal cords - as I was watching closely - that's how close he was. He looks good up close - very very fit. Someone must have a cell phone video of this - because everyone was recording it where I was sitting. He jumped on the ledge later - oh, yes - for Danceophobia - but part of his bit was recorded as I heard his voice but he wasnt signing that part. The 2 singers were with him this time. on the ledge. It was a blast!
I think all the new songs were great - especially Paper Gods. Like Double Ds said - it sounded better live than on cd. Possibly because of JTs bass. It was booming. Same for last night in the city and what are the chances -in that they sounded great live. Hudson was on stage next to the 2 female singers lending his vocals to Paper Gods - which was nice to see. Hudson also sang on Pressure off using JTs mike stand for that one. And of course Nile was there to do Notorious and Pressure off. The funny bit there was that Simon stopped Notorious - I guess because he wanted to give Nile a proper introduction. Simon said - I can stop the song, right?I think Simon was just in the zone the entire night - and went right into Notorious and then he sees Nile. He did a funny thing earlier in the show when he said - we have a new song for you now. And then JT starts laughing. The Simon says we do have a new song but later in the show. I think he was just in the zone. He also said after performing here on the Arsenio Hall show - he always wanted to play here and he really likes the bowl!
Oh, the reason why I didnt have my cell phone at the ready! I treated myself to the new sony high resolution audio recorder - the D100 -and I was able to bring it in without any issue. Thankfully, there was minimal audience talking in my vicinity - so the audio came out very good. The only issue is I recorded it using Sony's DSD audio format - which is the new gold standard. That is good - because its the best audio signal you can get - but bad because noone else has it. So, I will see what software is out there to play the files via the computer. If I can find some good software - I will try and post some tracks. Yes, Sony is all over this high resolution audio - with their walkman to play hd audio files (like Paper Gods from Hdtracks.com) and now this recorder.
For those about to see them - you are in for a treat:)

Cool read! Would love to have a copy of your audio recording if possible!!! Ha! I bet you would!! Got 100s of recordings so i'd love to add this one and these type of recordings are much better than those bumpy phone recordings with terrible sound.

Duran Duran should make soundboard recordings of everything like Metallica does and sell them on DDmusic.com great service for the die hard fans But I asked them like a million times to do so but nope... That stupid B*tch still gets in the way of everything I want to ask the band

There aren't enough to truly high-quality bootlegs out there....I've got a hard drive full of ones that are fairly sketchy....doesn't stop me from listening / loving them, but good-quality recordings make all the difference. I don't consider the 'live' things that come from the band on an official basis to qualify as they are heavily massaged / engineered.
