I wondered if they might skip AVTAK given it's Paris connotations.....
I totally get that it is a very sad and angry time for the world and we all support France in dealing with the atrocities committed there recently. Good on Duran for donating their recent EODM version of Save A Prayer royalties to charity; that is a very nice gesture from a very good bunch of blokes.
But if Duran are going to get that paranoid then they won't be able to play Ordinary World with the line "Holy War", Friends Of Mine talks about Rocky picture losing his gun, Careless Memories mentions 'Fear hangs a plane of gunsmoke', The Reflex cites Renoir and he was French, Skin Divers mentions bullets, Before The Rain talks about a bomb tick, and Violence Of Summer has the word 'Violence' in it - where does it all end?
What about the tracks from their new album they're trying to promote? Paper Gods mentions 'Head shots' - that could be taken out of context. Last Night In The City talks about living like it's your last night. You Kill Me With Silence - well enough said there. Face For Today mentions a "wall of death", and a diamond explodes in What Are The Chances.
Everybody in the world is devastated over what happened in Paris. But not playing A View To A Kill because thirty years ago the music video was filmed on the Eiffel Tower makes as much sense as not playing New Moon On Monday because that was also filmed in Paris, or not playing Girls On Film because a couple of girls were pouring champagne over each other. Warren recorded most of his guitar parts for Big Thing in Paris - better not play anything from that album as well.
Plus the word Lebon is French, so it will suck hearing somebody else sing for Duran this tour
EDIT: I know what happened in Paris is no laughing matter. But Duran Duran are entertainers, not politicians. And A View To A Kill is one of their finest songs and always entertains the crowd, so to not play a popular James Bond theme song because of where a 30 year old video was filmed seems silly to me.
It's not offensive - it's just great music! And the world could do with great Duran Duran music during these testing times.
