Who's going to the Newcastle gig - I am! Ho'way the Lads! (Newcastle-speak for Come on guys, for the uninitiated)

Fan-feared phrase ... “None of us know how many more Duran Duran albums there are going to be ..." I also didn't like the part where they say they plan on using Andy's spot as a sopt to bring in new people, and that the band are no longer complete without using that spot for collaborations. I would prefer them to have enough talent in house to make music and not have to bring in outsiders for each and every project going forward. I wish Andy was back, but short of that I wish the would make Dom a permanent band member.

He's talented and has brought a lot to the band. If he feels marginalised he may decide to go ....

But for me personally, I think their sound NEEDS a strong guitarist to be complete. And I don't think the collaboration efforts in this album (except the guitarist contributions) were all that helpful.

...and I think the other thing that bothered me more than what was said about the opening being good for the collaborations is the business with "if Andy was still in the band...." If Andy was still in the band they wouldn't have been able to make an album as interesting? Really? I'm thinking that statement is a bit subjective considering I think EVERY album Andy was a part of has been more interesting that PG. But then, perhaps they mean interesting to them (and not necessarily to me as a listener). I suppose it's more pleasant, for them in the studio, making an album without him. But it's certainly not better for me as a listener.

I had the same feeling too, zealous, but I like to think that "if Andy was still in the band...." should be read as "if the line-up was complete, DD would stick to their format and experiment less". I don't want to think it has to do with Andy personally, but with the fact that no permanent guitarist, let alone Andy, would allow this kind of experimentation, like calling Dom, Nile or John F. to play guitar parts. At least this is my interpretation at 6 a.m.!
