Last week I received my sealed Venuzuelan copy of the Big Thing lp. This sparked an interesting conversation between Peter and me. Below is a (not too sharp) picture of the UK and Venezuela copy of the album: As you will notice the UK issue is the issue we all know, all the letters in the band name are either yellow or black, on both sides. On the Venzuelan issue however the first n and second d of Duranduran are printed in orange and therefore corresponding with the underlying colour of the block they are placed in. Now for the "argument" Peter and I are having....which one features the correct artwork? Peter thinks only Venezuela got it right by being the only ones to follow the colour scheme of the artwork. As much as I see his point, and can agree with it, I feel that the choice to print the bandname in yellow and black is deliberate to enhance the readability of it. The bandname stands out much more with the sharp contrast of the yellow/black lettering than the yellow/orange/black lettering in the sleeve, posters and promotional material. So what do you think...which version of the artwork is the "right" one?

The "right" one for me would be the copy with the yellow "d" as that is how it appears on the vinyl I purchased at Turtles Music when it was released. 😉
