Considering they never went away, this is getting tiresome.
5. Duran Duran
There have been a few setbacks and a few roster changes throughout the years but Duran Duran has kept going throughout it all. Their fans are still hard to count since a lot of folks might care for them but won’t say so openly or will let them sit at the bottom of their music roster or somewhere close. In the 80s they were a band that was on the lips of just about everyone at one point or another since they were considered to be one of the most popular and, thanks to the 80s, one of the most prominent bands around. The decade was well-known for pushing bands that had certain sounds, especially if they were able to draw a crowd. Yes they had their little fun “comeback” in the 90s but let’s face it, we need 80s Duran Duran back.
TBH I can’t see the big deal about calling it a comeback. When an album campaign finishes a new chapter begins. Say you have 2 boxers in a ring. One guy gets caught by a left hook - he goes on to lose the round 10-7. He just made the count but he holds on to fight another round. He eventually regains his senses and stamina and goes on to turn the fight around and wins the contest. That’s a comeback surely?
The article is not demeaning. I’ve certainly read a lot worse lol. If it is guilty of anything it would be stereotyping the band by saying we want the old 80’s Duran Duran back.
I think Comeback is good. Look at the positives - It means the band can look forward and move on from their past. The media can be very powerful and convincing - A comeback can be very exciting and I think generally a high percentage of people will be interested in this topic. Have we all forgotten Astronaut? I can’t recall many fans complaining when the fab five all got back together in their spaceships and cars etc. That was billed as a comeback - but Duran Duran hadn’t been away. 3/4 years? This time there will be at least 5 years between PaperGods and the next album.
Every album is a comeback - unless you’re putting out 2 albums a year of course.
