Thought I'd add my list including the artists song that intrigued/engaged my interest in the first instance.
KISS - (more of a general hype thing) yet must admit - I was made for loving you got me hooked.
CHIC - Le Freak
The Jacksons - Shake your body down to the ground & Triumph LP
Micheal Jackson - Don't stop till you get enough
Roxy Music - Same Old Scene (& later Avalon followed by the entire RM/BF back catalogue)
Blondie - Heart of glass (& later) Rapture
DD - Planet Earth in early 81.......& OBVIOUSLY the remainder of their works to this day !!!
Must add, seeing DD during the SBS tour in 83 certainly changed my life to the state where I was never the same again, umm...........or since ? (I was 14yrs).
In amongst all DD offerings over the years,
- Bryan Ferry - LPs Boys & Girls, Bete Noire, Mamouna (then got into his back catalogue, love the recent Olympia & Avonmore LPs too ) - Sade - Cherry Pie (this track in particular which wasn't a hit basically introduced me) including - Stronger Than Pride & Love Deluxe LPs - Boom Crash Opera (albums 1 - 4).
There obviously have other acts I've had an avid interest in since I first heard DDs PE in February of 81 and to this day, however DD seem to always consistently touch nerve with all their releases unlike any other act has ?
& I guess it's something quite spiritual while certainly some kind of mystery indeed !

Given my age, I have literally never known a world without them.
Seven And the Ragged Tiger came out when I was 6. Along with Thriller, it was the first modern pop music I ever heard, or at least can remember. It was also the first tape I played over and over on a little portable cassette player. As an 11 year old, the Big Thing album was the first album I ever sought out on my own. As an only child, Inspent countless hours listening to these two cassettes over and over.
Yes, the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel had always been played in my house by parents who truly came of age in the 60s. My parents probably had a rush of nostalgia for the Beatles when they came through the States in 1984..and we haven’t stopped playing DD since.

I was about 6 when I first saw the HLTW video. I think I was a little too young to become obsessed with a rock band, lol. The first group I loved was New Kids on the Block, which I loved for a few months until I saw a “live” performance on video that obviously wasn’t live and lost all “respect.” Then I did a 180 and got into REM, then INXS, and not long after DD!

The Police, Styx, REO Speedwagon
Then came DD with the Rio album when I was 10, and that was it!
Although I also count R.E.M., U2, and The Killers as top 5 favorites...but not #1!
