I know the promo story of MoF but has anyone seen it? No pictures exist, it is not listed on discogs etc. It just substantiates my point that it was never a single, nobody could purchase it other than on the album. Why not include Anyone out there then? That was also released as a promo. Or Big Thing of which a 7” version exists. I think my prior post makes clear that my hypothetical compilation for DD40 would include country specific releases and promos to fill out three discs. I think the Simple Minds package leaves a lot to be desired, and Warner should do a better job if/when a DD compilation is released. It is a personal choice as to which ones I selected, and it is meant to encourage discussion on this board not close it down.

Here's a hypothetical track listing for an expanded 3 CD "Greatest" compilation using some country specific and promo only singles to get the total to 48 songs. Some albums like TWA would be over represented so you have to pick and choose here and there. If they included every music video through LNITC on DVD/Blu-Ray, I for one would add it to my collection. Planet Earth Careless Memories Girls on Film My Own Way Hungry Like the Wolf Save a Prayer Rio Is There Something I Should Know? Union of the Snake New Moon on Monday The Reflex Wild Boys A View to a Kill Notorious Skin Trade Meet el Presidente A Matter of Feeling I Don’t Want Your Love All She Wants Is Do You Believe in Shame? Violence of Summer Serious Ordinary World Come Undone Too Much Information Breath After Breath None of the Above Perfect Day White Lines Lay Lady Lay Out of My Mind Electric Barbarella Someone Else Not Me Playing with Uranium Last Day on Earth Sunrise What Happens Tomorrow Nice Falling Down Nite-Runner Skin Divers Boys Keep SwingingAll You Need Is Now Girl Panic! Leave a Light On Pressure Off What Are the Chances? Last Night in the City Boys Keep Swinging is a cover single to promote the album "We Were So On On" If this is included, "Instant Karma" (from Make Some Noise) and "Thank You" (from Encomium) should also be included

But Boys Keep Swinging was an actual 7" single, the others were not.
Don't get me wrong, I would like to see a special release for the 40th, but rather a career spanning box set including rarities than a greatest hits album. Something like Bowie's Sound + Vision box or Marc Almond's Trails of Eyeliner. I don't need all the hits, I would like rarely heard live versions from the period before 1996, so not another version of Sunrise please. Don't mind if the hits are on it too, maybe even some 7" edits, but a 1982 live version of HLTW would make me happier.
Something like: Planet earth (night version) Girls on film (live in amsterdam paradiso) Late bar (live at vh1) Sound of thunder (live at hammersmith) My own way (7" version) HLTW (new 1982 live version) Hold back the rain (Carnival mix) Rio (1994 acoustic) SAP (live secret policeman 1987) The reflex (la forum) Cracks in the pavement (live b side) New moon on monday (extended) Union of the snake (as the lights go down mix) Tiger tiger (alternate) Wild boys (wilder than wild boys ext) A view to a kill (12" version unreleased) ... Etc
And then include Beautiful colours, Instant Karma, Serious 7" mix, Skin trade L'oreal, Nice prydz radio edit, Boys keep swinging, Girl panic Lynch remix, LNITC remix (ther was one decent remix if I remember correctly), Pressure off night version and other semi-released songs.
