Interesting. I'm sure Simon meant it at the time though, just as I'm sure the pair have well and truly kissed and made up since then. Let us not forget that Simon also wrote Hold Back The Rain and put the lyrics under John's door when he felt that John was starting to get hooked on drugs and the rock 'n roll lifestyle, so it's not the first time that Simon has commented on band members in his lyrics (Who Do You Think You Are - another song written during this "angry" phase of Duran is allegedly about Warren for example)! To be honest the lyrics and the reasoning behind them don't bother me too much. As long as Simon meant it at the time (and I'm sure he did) then you can't complain about it 22 years later after times have changed and they're great mates again. It happened, it was a bad time for the band, but things have thankfully now changed - let's move on I'm actually more concerned that the song is boring, tuneless, and monotonous rather than its dissing of John Taylor

"Buried in the Sand" felt sincere to me, not vindictive. Musically, I find it superior among DD's output.

I like the song as well and also think it's sincere.
But, didn't Nick write the lyrics? I feel like it was mentioned recently...

Love, love, love this song. Love Medazzaland, very underrated album, in my opinion. At least I can brag I’m one of the few people who owns it

Yes, Nick wrote the lyric to Buried in the Sand for John.

"Buried in the Sand" felt sincere to me, not vindictive. Musically, I find it superior among DD's output. I agree its sincere, just poorly / insensitivity expressed. Which, for such a personal and meaningful topic, is rather shocking for a band that I try to hold to higher standards of expression.

Here's my favourite version
Always loved it on the album yet this live version has it in all its bare organic beauty
It's got it all including the bass which doesn't fare as well on the album version.
Literally LOVE what Warren does with his guitar, at 1:15 >>>>>> 2:00 It takes me away every single time I listen to it especially when experiencing this version with me eyes closed. Perhaps it's the "flower power child" in me? (after all I was umm a child in the 70s & therefore physically present during the FP movement). or then it could be simply "the guru" free flowing spirit side of me which most certainly connects? Regardless it's in a Led Zeppenism/Jimmy Page type virtuoso play, well done WC !!!
Go on now, I dare yas, give it a listen (if ya haven't already) & play it loud, with any luck you'll feel what I do.
The other MOMENT is at 2:50 where SLB holds that note for like 15 seconds, OMG what an effort !!!
Lastly, Don't worry if you stray/fly away too far, you'll be delivered back to earth safely at the songs conclusion............I promise !
