Well of COURSE I'm happy Duran Duran are still around and making new music. We are extremely fortunate to love a band that has been going strong for almost 40 years - how many other fans can say that? Not many that's for sure. We are a very lucky and unusual set of fans. But I totally disagree with you Andre. We shouldn't just be happy that Duran Duran are making new music - are you really saying that you would put up with anything just because it comes from Duran Duran? Are you really saying that you'd be happy if Duran Duran's next five albums were all terrible simply because it's nice to get new music from Duran Duran? Not me. I expect a bit more from my favourite band than just that. If Duran Duran are going to end their career going through the motions and phoning their albums in then I would rather them leave while they're still on their game and have some dignity. Thankfully Duran Duran have never done this But here's the thing - Duran Duran is the artist and I am the consumer, the fan. It is up to Duran Duran to impress ME - it's not up to me to change to be impressed by Duran Duran. If every fan had the attitude "Hey guys let's just be happy they are still around and making new music" then that's a very apathetic and lazy fanbase. If Duran Duran knew that we fans are going to be happy with anything they put out purely because it's "new music" and by default we'll love it then there isn't much incentive for them to push themselves and strive to be the best they can be is there? We follow the best band in the world. We should be the best fans in the world. And that does not mean following them blindly like sheep and just being content because they're still going. We should be content because a GREAT band is continuing to make GREAT music. Not simply new music. I wouldn't say better myself, coolbarn. You made everything. I buy everything from DD, about inertia or habit, I'm a total fan. Otherwise, I can't explain why I bought the RCM, for example, I can't listen to it. But I just can't bear the feeling that I won't have their new record, even if it was RCM2, for example. They are simply part of my life. I also like them because they have not given up and endured and because they are innovative. So you don't like Box of Honey, The Valley, last man standing..other non Timbaland songs? Duran always has gems on each album..I think many here on this board are spoiled and want each song to be 10 out of 10..that's impossible for any artist..i'm happy for anything new!!

I agree! I really like that every DD album is something new. Take someone like Bruce Springsteen for instance. Great artist but makes the same sort of album for the last 40 years. Duran Duran is always trying to come up with something new, fresh and daring. Good or not i really like that.

That's where I'm at too. Otherwise, why would still be posting here? :-) Since Liberty-era, DD have been my underdog band, and I'll still fight for them. They're like family at this point, For me, Paper Gods (as a whole, and including b-sides) was an improvement over anything else post-reunion. It confirmed that they can still create music that I enjoy, and I'm curious about what's next. Plus, they seem happy making music, a huge bonus. They are simply part of my life. I also like them because they have not given up and endured and because they are innovative.

I think we can all be glad that the band is still alive and still has the desire to record new material every few years, especially in this day and age. That said, I think it's also perfectly reasonable to not like some or all of the new songs we eventually hear either. Like you hinted at, it's pretty rare to find albums these days that anyone would love from start to finish. But even if I don't like the majority of something, my tone these days is usually to just shrug those songs off as "meh" and move on from it. Or come back to them later and see if it hits me then. But overall, if a band I like throws out at least a few songs on each album that I can enjoy, I usually consider that a victory in the end.

I understand your point, but respectfully disagree. DD can make whatever music makes them happy, and then enjoy/or suffer the consequences. What they owe us is a sincere and thoughtful approach to making music, but I wouldn't want them to simply try to impress me. They're artists, not a corporation. I'd guess they do consider their fans and have a sense of what we like, but mostly focus on what sounds good to them. However, I won't be happy with just anything they put out, but try to be open-minded. As a fan, I wish they'd veer further away from pop mainstream, and I get frustrated when they make (what seem like) obvious lapses in judgement (but I don't know the whole story). But here's the thing - Duran Duran is the artist and I am the consumer, the fan. It is up to Duran Duran to impress ME - it's not up to me to change to be impressed by Duran Duran. I'll try to tell you this, andre005 (sorry for my English ). RCM is the only album where I skip some songs. I don't like "Zoom in", "LMS", "DGM", "STM". It is the only album where I feel a certain calculus from the band. I also don´t like Timbaland's rap, artificial drums and bass. It all seems to me like Nick Rhodes' solo project with guest vocal of Simon Le Bon. I listen to all the other albums from start to finish, including Medazzaland and Pop Trash. Without leaving out a single song.

“We are really excited about the new album, it’s very uplifting, it’s a DANCE music sort of oriented work, like Rio, like the first album. It’s got a lot of DANCE FLOOR on it.” Simon Le Bon What is the source of this quote? If it has the energy of the first two albums then I'm optimistic. I just don't want a bunch of programmed beats.

The quote is from BBC Radio Solent....and agree they have said similar comments in the past, which is understandable as their two first albums are classics and masterpieces. What I have always loved about this band is their originality and evolution while holding on to their roots. So Viva Duran as every album in their catalogue is a gem!

As a fan, I wish they'd veer further away from pop mainstream, and I get frustrated when they make (what seem like) obvious lapses in judgement (but I don't know the whole story). I think you may have misunderstood me. I would never say Duran Duran owe me anything. They are just a pop band. If they ever borrow fifty bucks off me - then they'll owe me something. But until that time they don't owe me anything and I don't owe them anything. (Well maybe I owe them a happy life because they have certainly made mine more enjoyable over the years ) I'm really saying that Duran Duran have to impress me by the music they make, not simply for being Duran Duran. Some fans here listen and listen to Duran Duran and almost "force" themselves to love every new song because they don't feel like a true fan if they don't love most of what the band produces. Those people are extremists, and no extremist (be it positive or negative) can be taken seriously. By all means Duran Duran can make ANY style of music that makes them happy. They can make a death-metal/country music/acapella hybrid album if it floats their boat. And I WILL buy it because it's Duran Duran, but I won't necessarily love it because it's Duran Duran. They don't get any "get out of jail free" cards with their latest album purely because their my favourite band. As for them being "artists, not a corporation" I really wish that were so. Simon has said that they have enough money now and it's about making fans happy, which is a lovely sentiment and something I couldn't agree more with. However considering last album they got in Mark Ronson complete with mix tapes of what the young kids are listening to, and they made a very current sounding album designed to sound better to teenagers than 40-somethings, and they will play any private gig under the sun but no mainstream concerts outside the US or UK, then sometimes it does still appear that it's more about the money and recording contracts than the art
