Recently I purchased another book for the home library which was Face It by Debbie Harry. It's a cool book, great cover including content, format and pics, check it out when you next find yourself in a book store.
Always loved Blondie, in particular Call Me, Hangin On The Telephone, Picture This and indeed Rapture and Heart Of Glass just to name a few. Ohh and who can forget Atomic and In The Flesh !
Interesting what artists recollect tho
Pg 220 Debbie states that "we (Blondie) were touring the US with Duran Duran in stadiums" & she goes on to add that "Chris (Blondie's guitarist) was wasting away by the last night of the Duran Duran tour at JFK Stadium in August 82".
I always thought DD supported Blondie, which I do believe is actually true. Although I must admit I wasn't aware that this particular Blondie tour was so major, I mean Blondie with DD supporting played the JFK Stadium? That's where they held the Live Aid gig?
Anyway, in the book (amongst many other topics) Debbie talks working with Nile/Bernard and the CHIC organisation including Giorgio M which I must admit made a very interesting read !

I dont think that is very accurate... There is at least another mention about DD doing a few tracks and she referred to one of them being wasted on drugs...

I think it was fairly obvious she was referring to Warren. In the nicest possible way she made him sound like a bit of a nightmare.

I assume it was when Duran wrote Pop Trash Movie for Blondie but they didn't end up using it so Duran thought "What the hell, it's a great track so we'll use it then" Was the "wasted on drugs" quote applying to the '82 tour or much later when they wrote Pop Trash Movie? If she was talking about that 82 tour then I'm not surprised as they all seemed to be into it to varying degrees at that time, but almost 20 years later I would have thought Nick and Simon were past that stage of their life (I remember Simon being more into those healthy grass shakes!). Not to mention I always thought that Warren was more interested in keeping his body in top shape and would have shied away from pumping drugs into it.

In the book it relates to 1999. She says "we tried to write with Duran but they had this crazy, crazy guy in the band who seemed whacked out of his head. It was almost funny. We would try to record and he would be ripping his clothes off complaining he was overheated. He had a good body and he knew it but he reeked of this acrid drug sweat and he seemed to be speeding off his tits. Quite a distraction"

Quite a distraction" She must be referring to WC These drug things are never advertised in interviews. I remember interviews with DD around 85 when asked whether they used coke, the reply was: not anymore, only in our very early days... And then later it became clear that both AT and JT were heavy users, and that JT developed a serious addiction. The others never went public about it, but SlB being a famous rock star and Yasmin being a supermodel in the 1980s makes it unlikely they were not using coke. When there is really no way out, pop stars admit they used it but since have become clean. Eg David Bowie, the official story was that he went to Berlin to kick his coke habit. After his death it became evident he had been a regular coke user at least until after the Tin Machine years when he married Iman.

There is an interview out there somewhere where Warren talks about taking drugs and it he even created his own formula and had it made for him because of varying quality and side effects.

There is a set list from JFK Stadium Tracks Across America Tour ‘82 gig that featured Blondie and (DD supporting); Blondie was pretty massive in the U.S. before they called it quits back then because of Chris Stein’s illness: www.setlist.fm/setlist/blondie/1982/john-f-kennedy-stadium-philadelphia-pa-3d2f967.htmlI’m interested in the book as well. Debby tells it like it is, and it’s through a major publisher, so there should be thorough fact checking. Lol about Warren.

I havent heard the Warren Drug Technician story before, sounds like he was a virtuoso with everything. Maybe he was working on an internal cure for baldness?, by sweating out new hairs?
By 1999 drugs were well over the hill. I think most of the band had definitely stopped dabbling after David Miles death in 1986. Also by 1997 when Michael Hutchence passed away, and it was a big shock to them. I dont feel Warren was on drugs when he wrote music for TWA, although looking at TY it might explain a few things. Sounds like he was getting out of control, and this lead to 'creative differences'.
btw, anyone who has the book, does Debbie mention the launch of the Amiga Computer on June 25th 1985? Please PM me what she says, or take a photo would be better, I'd be very interested.
