Please...don't feed the fakers and bootleggers out there. I'm not talking about live, demo, or unreleased material, I'm talking about commercial or promotional vinyl whose jacket artwork has been replaced by shoddy, inferior and laughably produced artwork where the seller claims that it's "official". Oh sure, the sleeve they have produced may have all the hallmarks of looking official, including a radio station ID, but it's the small things (and glaring obvious ones) that give it away as being a homemade job. I'd like to think most collectors on here are pretty savvy when it comes to this nonsense, but I fear that those bidding on Ebay either have no clue or they're in fact a collector who just wants to add this poorly made specimen to their collection (why? don't know). Rarely do I post live links, but here are a couple of examples.
DURAN DURAN-BIG THING-LP Mexico Promo Radio Unique Cover PS EMI
www.ebay.com/itm/165058696728?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
the vinyl on the inside "might" be a genuine promo issue - and I say might because using Discogs as a reference, I checked all the vinyl LPs out of Mexico and didn't see a promotional one listed, so the vinyl is either genuine with that label or the person selling it created a stamp to imprint the words on the label. I mean, they've gone so far as to create a fake sleeve, why not create a stamp indicating "for promotion".
Duran Duran-Notorio-12" Mexico Single Promo Radio Unique cover PS EMI
www.ebay.com/itm/165058853756?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
the record may sport a legit catalog number, but why doesn't the label on the record mention that it's for promotional use? the official promo 12" on Discogs has this. Hmm. Oopsie!
I don't mean to come off all preachy here, but I just hate to see collectors giving up their hard earned money for something like this.
