I've been listening to Big Thing a lot lately, and it still baffles me how All She Wants Is was a chart success. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a terrific song, but you wouldn't bet on it to be a Top Ten hit after Skin Trade, Meet El Presidente or even I Don't Want Your Love had flopped. I wonder if any of you have any theories?

Not sure what you mean by IDWYL flopping--it was # 1 in Italy..# 1 on US Dance charts..# 4 on US Billboard charts and # 14 on UK singles chart. # 6 in Canada.. # 8 Ireland.. I mean what more did you want after Andy and Roger left? IDWYL was like top 10 video on all the music channels..it was everywhere.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Don%27t_Want_Your_Love

all she wants is a stand out single. Its Very powerful and very commercial in comparison with Skin Trade which is simply a good track but not single material and meet el president which is by far one of the Worst DD singles. the Shep Pettibone remixes helped a lot. Also the b side I believe/all i need to know was fab.

I should have mentioned that I was specifically referring to the UK charts (but my point is more the surprising/unexpected success of ASWI)

its shocking that IDWYL only got at no 14 in the UK. I mean its even more commercial and powerful than ASWI.
Also far better than Notorious that got at no 7. weird uk fans.

ASWI was not particularly successful in USA though I loved it and the remixes. Honestly it was too good for the US charts at the time. It's one I would love to see in the set more.

From what I recall, a lot of the success of ASWI in the UK charts, is down to it's release date. It entered the charts in early January, just after the Christmas rush, at a time when any Christmas tracks start to quickly disappear down the charts, and at a time when there were few new releases. Duran also did a bit of promotion for the single. I can remember watching Simon and John (I think) on Saturday morning superstore just before Christmas. Might even have been Christmas eve? So good timing made a significant positive affect. I love the track. To this day it remains one of my favourites. One of my favourite single covers too.

I think ASWI was a minor hit off the back of the Top 5 (US) IDWYL and also because of the groundbreaking video.
