Thank God Simon and Andy came along..
1 album tops with Andy Wickett Duran would have existed and gone to never be heard again..it's not bad on 1st listen but gets worse after a few repeat listens..Andy's guitar was key to the DD sound!
Working the steel is bad vocally but great instrumentally..

i agree. DD would never be successful with this vocalist. not only he can not sing his voice is also very irritating. Also those songs have no melodies. Even Girls on Film is so flat. Very bad. Thank god Simon came!!!

Don't judge by the demos. Τhey were recorded very quickly. Andy released personal albums with very good music with amazing vocals. have you ever heard them? He's not good live...

Yes he sings live without the support of voice correction machines like others do. I have to hear more records from him I guess..but from what I heard so far it's nothing to write home about...maybe I'm missing something?

Please be nicer and kinder to the musicians. You don't know with what effort they create beautiful melodies for us who judge them so easily. That's my message and all I want to say. I’ve no idea why this thread was created because you are spot on.

That's my message and all I want to say. that is a very romantic approach to the matter. of course behind any form of art, music in this instance, hides an effort. and then the art is delivered to the public to be judged. some will love it some will hate it. thats part of this game and its called expressing an opinion. now the purpose of this thread is to point out that with Andy Wickett DD had no chance in being a popular band. And Andy W is compared with Simon. And Simon is miles better as a vocalist than Andy W.

To be fair we are comparing a very early demo in 1979. Its not fair to judge his ability as a vocalist, unless you compare it to the earliest demos of Simon.
Saying that, Simon is a better singer, but more importantly, a way more inventive musician where he injected melodies and harmonies into their music. That and Andy's melodic guitar playing is what made them special.

To each their own..I don't hear much melody or harmonies or anything special..clearly Simon was light years ahead in that dept...and yes, Giannis thank you! Andy as the lead singer would have been the end of Duran if Simon did not come along....
Simon's worst on any demo is still better than Andy's best recorded..just my opinion! I feel Simon in his voice--I don't fell Andy when he sings..

This is like a Beatles forum saying ‘Stu sutcliffe was crap on bass’ or ‘Pete beat was a bad drummer’
History has already decided
