Not everyone can have a voice like Freddie Mercury. And of the generation of DD artists, George Michael had the best vocals. Right now it's Dave Gahan.

The problem is that Simon doesn't have the most ideal voice either. He has to help himself with autotune and female vocalists.

The problem is that Simon doesn't have the most ideal voice either. He has to help himself with autotune and female vocalists. He does not use that much autotune as much as you suspect. You know when he messes up! That's not Autotune! You know when you hear it..it's that bad...he does those vocal exercises for a reason..

Vocal correction devices existed already in the late 1970s. Fairlight CMI also makes this possible. Harmonizer H910 was the first, released in 1975, but of course, was very primitive compared to today’s applications.

Alex Ball made a demo of one of such devices, MXR M-129 Pitch Transposer from 1979. Used by John Foxx, Big Country, U2, New Order, Daniel Miller, Bon Jovi, Yes...

He is not a bad singer, he is ok. Simon is just on another level.

I get ‘bad vocalist’ may be a wrong title too yet it is someone’s opinion and that’s all it is
There is a reason why DD never got signed to a major label with anyone else in it but the 5 member line up which was signed.
Who knows, did AW leave or was he asked to? I’m grateful they ended up with LeBon
Thing is I get what your saying sot however this is a DD ‘fan board’ after all so I understand that it’s highly likely that there will be some natural bias (derived from a greater love for DD) than other artists, Like, it’s a dd fans opinion
Personally, I don’t visit any other band board (even tho I deeply love a handful of other artists just as much).
So I get why the love for DD may be way more heavier than for other artists
I once quoted JT who said “unlike many bands DD were fully formed from the day dot” and he added “unlike the likes of U2, the stones and Radiohead who found their thing be it 2 or 3 LPs in”.
You shoulda seen the backlash and hard time I got on this board when all I was doing was quoting JT from Lori M’s “mad world” book
I wonder if that member who gave me all that grief took it upon him to instantly get in contact with JT and let him have it too or was it just an ego thing for that other member to state their opinion on a DD FAN board toward another DD brother?
Personally I get why people on this board like DD more than most other artists just as I get that referring to another singer as ‘bad’ isn’t the best idea

I do not hear any auto tune--100% Simon..it's a song like this that Simon trumps a lot of lead singers--this song and performance is a duran classic..
Also near the end isn't Nick playing with both hands at 4:07 in? I don't think he's fake playing on this performance? I could be wrong? Roger is playing the electric drum kit..
