I am sure PSB will do very well with their new album coming out this Friday..not sure if it will go # 1 because of the Taylor Swift Affect.
I am certain if DD releases albums in the early part of the year..which means them doing their due diligence and work early the previous year, I am sure they could get another # 1 album.
They wait until the end of the year with big artists releasing their albums and the competition is just too hard vs those current artists and bands and useless to release an album so close to Christmas IMO.
I know in the UK it's a lot easier to chart, but was just hoping for 1 more # 1 DD album before they hang it up for good!
Would an Anthology or double album go to #1 once they are closer to saying good-bye?
All I kept hearing about on First Wave today is the anticipation of the new PSB album..what I have heard so far is okay--nothing earth shattering--still love the old PSB and not crazy so far on the 2 songs I have heard..will listen to the new album on Friday to see if it will be a classic PSB album..

Another reason I think Reportage will be early 25. I can see it going in at number 1 in the UK, if released at the time you suggest at the sart of the year. If they plan properly then they should have a couple of deluxe formats all available from the day of release, where the super fans buy every format. If DD got to number 1 in their 45th year since they formed (with Simon) then they would have loads of press, in a way they haven't for years. Even more so with Andy being on board. I'm assuming the management have already considered this and are planning accordingly.

While I dont think Duran will hit no.1, because there are no "first single" candidates on the album, there is also the DD album curse where every other album is a hit or a miss. FP did well. DM did not do so well. So Rep should do well.

Remember that physical copies still count for a lot in UK in regards to chart placings.
There are a lot of casual fans in the UK who never know they have a new album out. I can see a fair bit of press in advance talking about it as a lost album, the whole Andy angle too. If they get the promo correct then they will hit number 1 easily. Shed Seven got a number one album in the UK this year. They play to 2000 capacity venues in the UK, where DD are more like 10000.

I'm like you here - haven't heard anything that makes me say "Wow!" from the few tunes I've heard - although check out the B-side "Through You" - that's pretty great. My fear is that PSB have hit a plateau where their songs/albums are very similar to each other now. There's a "sound" that they've settled on. And...I feel D2 are inching closer to that as well. As dissimilar as Paper Gods and Future Past and Danse Macabre are, there's much more in common between a sound that binds them all. Still fantastic albums of course. (I'm sure Reportage will be the sharp turn that will undo all of that of course!)

PSBs are overrated. DD is a much more innovative and experimental affair.
