Hi all,
On the old board someone very generously offered the Chicago 2006 concert as a .7z file. I downloaded it and can't seem to find a program that will decompress it. The .7z file is 64 mb, so I'm pretty sure it's the entire file and not truncated or anything.
I have a G3 Macintosh running OS X 10.2.8, I tried unTar but when that program decompresses the file, the decompression goes suspiciously quickly and there's nothing in the file folder it's supposed to be going to.
Any help would be appreciated - it was a great concert!

Hi Sarah B! I have no idea about Macs but on my PC I went to www.download.com and downloaded Extract Now. So far, it has extracted every type of file that I have tried. I know almost nothing about computers and it was VERY easy for me. Good luck!!

Hi Sarah, I also have a mac and I couldn't find anything to open the file. Then I downloaded BetterZip and that seemed to do the trick. The extracted files will play in Quicktime but not in Itunes. Someone posted a way to get these files into Itunes but I didn't copy it down before the other board closed.

Thanks guys!
wxgirl, I think someone suggested that a converter was needed from wma to another format (w4a or something like that) I'll look in my files and see what it was...
Sadly, BetterZip is only for OS X 4 and above, and I'm still on OS X 2.8 (not enough memory for 4), but thanks for the suggestion! How do the files sound?

I have an Intel Mac running 10.4.8, so I mainly use Untar, but I did some searching around and found this app that might work on an older OS. Warning - it requires knowledge of command-line operations. www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18571Sadly, most other .7z decompressors are made for Panther (10.3.9) or above. And for converting .wma files, the only app I know is EasyWMA: www.easywma.com/

What are the numbers you guys are talking about? I know Macs are different from PCs but I want to learn some of what the differences are. Are you referring to versions of operating systems or something?

The numbers refer to versions of operating systems, the latest being 10.4.8. Each version also has a name:
10.2.8 (Jaguar) 10.3.9 (Panther) 10.4.8 (Tiger)
The next version up is tentatively named "Leopard."

Someone could always upload it to a zip for you so that you could download it. I would but am at work - hopefully later today, if no one else has.
