I wonder if Timbaland will thank Duran for giving him the experience of working with a "rock" band. I wonder if he'll even put it on his resume . . .

How 'mighty' can Timbaland be? RCM is Duran Duran's second-worst selling album EVER. Musically it sounds like Roger is happy with it, but I'm pretty sure DD was hoping to move more than 80,000 copies...
As far as Timba promoting the album, of course he doesn't HAVE to, but he doesn't have to promote Madonna's either and he is. One positive mention from him OR Timberlake would likely be worth 10,000 copies sold - to T/T fans who currently despise Duran Duran.
Does anyone think DD worked with the Tims purely for the artistic satisfaction? Hell no - they wanted to sell albums! That hasn't happened, and I'm sure the band is a little frustrated that the Tims are so vocal about Madonna's album and so quiet about theirs. His word is worth a lot, and they need the help.

Of course they wanted to sell albums, no big secret there. Look back at any of their albums and the desire for that is also there. Besides their love of big tours, why else did the band sign up with Epic years ago? The band was expressing interest in working with Timbaland going back to 2001, so it was hardly just a passing idea.
One big reason Timbaland is speaking in articles regarding Madonna is due to the simple fact that the MEDIA is far more interested in Madonna then they are Duran Duran, plain and simple, so the pursuit for his feedback is far stronger. If the media cared as much about Duran Duran as they do Madonna, you can bet Timbaland and Timberlake would have been more visible. The Madonna gig is far more high profile and she is far more powerful in the business and her core fanbase blows away DD's. She doesn't need to worry about gaining new fans, going on Regis and Kelly, to sell well. Who knows what kind of contractual agreements he made with Madonna's team regarding this album, regarding promotion, music videos..etc
Having said that, I remember getting bombarded with google alert articles when the Duran/Timbaland new broke. However, who really thought that was going to last?? what was he suppose to say when Epic changed plans and released FD? Timbaland mentioning RCM, yet again, is not going to bring in 10,000 sales. What it would do, is jump up the hits on any of the 1000 free download links for those 3 songs. Which is what many of his fans did when songs like NR and SD leaked months and months ago. During the leak and after the album release, I scoured his boards out of curiousity and the songs were everywhere, uploaded here, uploaded there ripped from the CD. That's going to hurt sales. I never thought Timbaland or Timberlakes fans were going to be the key to this album, particularly when your only talking a couple leaked tracks.

How strange for a drummer to have no rhythm. :-)
ETA: in the 20-minute version, toward the end if you look closely during a closeup of Nick and John, you can see John sneezing violently and Nick laughing at him. You have to look close because they're bathed in red light and there's smoke and sparks everywhere, but it's pretty funny!
