My Gen Y cousin (by marriage) and I are trading messages on myspace. She has discovered my Duran obsession, and she's much more up on music history in general than I am, even regarding Duran.
She posed this trivia challenge to me, and I don't know the answer. Do you know?

i'm not sure if this is right or not (and maybe i heard it wrong)...but i thought their "military" look came from The Clash....they were sporting that military style look at the time. not sure about the make-up though..... lol

most likely.. but i do think they were trying to emulate someone else by doing it....was it Bowie? ya know...that whole Ziggy Stardust phase.....? **scratches head and goes back to thinking on this one**

I always thought it was Roxy Music. The whole glam rock movement was a huge influence on New Romantics.

I thought it was sort of from Adam and the Ants, the frilly shirt Pirate kind of look (only without the stripe across the face).
