How can you please hardcore fans when you've got about 30 years worth of hit songs that you've only got 2 hours to cover?

I think you are missing the point Droid. The fans posting on this board are the ones going to the shows. I guess the die hards (who keep this band afloat) go to multiple shows and would like some variety. I'm aware of fans going to 3, 5, 10 shows and if they all only went to one show well ticket sales would be far less than they currently are (an dthey are down significantly on the reunion tour as are album sales). So fans are going to the 'boring' shows and enjoying them no doubt. I like to think if the Rolling Stones can change up their set every night, challenge their audience and play obscure blues numbers then Duran Duran (with near 30 years touring under their belts) could play one or two different numbers every night. Someone pointed out to me the other day that they have played Come Undone every tour (and almost every show) since 1993. Maybe it could take a break for one tour and be replaced with The Chauffeur. But as someone quite rightly pointed out you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time.... I'm not missing the point. I can understand wanting to see the band change it up a bit. I'm just saying that there are some of us die-hard fans who CAN'T go to multiple shows and would be happy pretty much regardless of the setlist. Go ahead and bemoan the fact that if you're going to multiple shows it may be the same songs each night, some of us just don't have that luxury.

Maybe they can't put in truly obscure songs, but 'Is There Something I Should Know' was a huge hit for them, they could play that and people wouldn't be confused. 'New Moon on Monday' was also played a lot on the radio, casual fans should know that one, too.
They seem to be playing it very safe this time around, just RCM and the classics; maybe in Europe and the second US leg they'll change it up a bit.

Fair point Droid. I appreciate they are not hitting everywhere this tour and to see them is better than not to see them. They are just about as good as it gets as a live touring band regardless of what songs they play.
In hindsight and on reflection they went a bit nuts in 1995 on the US festival tour which was a lot worse than a greatest hits show playing The Message, PLU (People like You) - thank god it never got recorded for release, apalling versions of Girls and Hungry. People walked out in their droves. it was a very confusing set although at the time quite thrilling.

My least favourite track in their catalogue is 'I Take The Dice'; perversely, I still would have liked to hear it live, if only in the spirit of variety. Another reason is that even their least-loved songs sound far better live, e.g. 'Tempted' on this tour and 'First Impression' in 1994.

I wish for them to play New Religion and the chauffeur, as they are 2 fav songs of mine! I will be gutted if they dont even play one of them at the O2 arena!

I just read the setlist for the May 24 Bahamas concert. THE SETLIST IS DIFFERENT! I think it's because the concert was at a resort. Wow, NO ELECTROSET! Did anyone attend that concert? Did you enjoy it?

I liked the Electroset. It was a new twist to the songs.
