NO, I remember that OW was a hit on the college scene. They released it w/o telling anyone who it was. More and more requests came in for it and then the surprise when the DD name was attached. It was smug justification for long time Duranies, IMO, when people started saying "wow, they ARE good" ...

Sorry I came late to this party.
Critical Acclaim Seems Elusive Coliseum Appears Strangely Empty Can't Admit our Star's Extinguished Can't Advise a Strong Ego Careers Are Shortly Ending Can't Always Satisfy Everybody Could Adversely Stimulate Ears
The negative ones are just easier to come up with.

That all works; but I hate to say that the last letter is "T" not "E" ... LOL

NO, I remember that OW was a hit on the college scene. They released it w/o telling anyone who it was. More and more requests came in for it and then the surprise when the DD name was attached. It was smug justification for long time Duranies, IMO, when people started saying "wow, they ARE good" ... Top 40 stations broke Ordinary World. I still remember the first time I heard it.....in November of `92. I didn't even know Duran had anything coming out (this was before the internet as we now know it and Duran had fallen way off the radar). Got in my car to go to work one day and the song literally started the second I started my old car. I'm not a radio guy, but I liked the guitar line and let it play.....kinda half paying attention to it. It was during the bridge with Nick's perfectly balanced synth part that i thought, "that's the kind of synth stuff Nick Rhodes should be writing". (I'd reckon that subconciously I was already onto it being a Duran song). By the time Simon was singing "every world is my world" - I was struck with, "This is Duran! Is this Duran?!?". The radio announcer comes in and says, "we got this song in this morning in a plain brown envelope.....it's called Ordinary World and you won't believe it, but that was Duran Duran" [paraphrasing from what I remember - but I think that's pretty close]. After that, radio requests started building at all the local stations. The song was huge and appealed to a very wide audience. It was definitely top 40 radio that broke the song (at least in America - I dunno about elsewhere) because they started playing it as soon as they got it - which was in November 92. I remember having to wait til January to buy the cd single and cassingle (Wikipedia says December.....which is possible). The song was already in the Billboard top 10 (largely by the strength of radio play due to the single not being sold until January (or December)....the timing was really good because once the "in store" single dropped, the whole thing snowballed with the already huge radio play) by the time the band had time to film a video for it (giving them credibility for having a hit song without the media crediting the success to a video). If I remember correctly, they moved up the release date of the Wedding Album because of how quickly the song had taken off. Also, Billboard (whcih I read religiously cover to cover back in the day) immediately picked up on Ordinary World/Duran Duran. There was no secret @ who it was. They had previously tried that with the Krush Brothers thing without any success. College radio couldn't have made the song that massive of a hit so quickly - but college radio did play it (but Duran routinely got played on college radio back then......Do You Believe In Shame got a lot of college play). They were right behind Whitney Houstons 12 week run at #1 with I Will Always Love You. Unfortunately, the Wedding Album as a whole wasn't as strong as Ordinary World, or Come Undone (two songs that sound nothing alike but are very strong songs). If they could maintain entire albums of songs with that kinda strength each time they release an album (and I don't mean songs that sound like those two.....I just mean diverse songs that are that well written/performed, etc.), they'd never need hit singles. They'd have a solid audience ready to buy each new release, and build on it each time. Along with that - an audience doesn't like shifting lineups. When members are dropping in and out, a band is going to loose folks. I know Andy is gone, so I'm not trying to start a "get him back" thing (that's theirs), I'm just saying that it really is an uphill climb for them on several fronts. The only thing they can do to compensate for all of those things is to make the best music they've ever made. It's got to be felt, real, and they've got to believe in it enough to not feel the need to knock people over the head with it (or ram it down anyones throat). If it's truly good, it will find an audience. They need to look at it as a process of building an audience over the course of several albums. I think the whole single minded thing and the way they sometimes hype themselves actually works against them. It rubs people the wrong way. Humility.......if the music is good, get it out there where they can, and don't distract from it. Just my two cents.

..and new single will be released in all possible formats... Source? ..no source..was kidding on this one..as i don't believe the first post in this topic... Someone wrote above, and I agree with that.. if we get 1 trk promo cd in phisical format it would be fab.. Somehow-John's speach a few months back about music today and no label announcement makes me think that they might distribute new album through dd.com just like they did RCM red vinyl.. in this case they might treat us with LP edition as well.. If the cd was about to be released through maijor label this year- they should have announced it by now... don't you think? I don't care as long as they keep working on new stuff and keep on touring from time to time...Somehow all this stuff will leak to those who wants to hear it...

Will be surprised if DD decide to issue themselves without a record deal. I thought I read somewhere (in 2004) that they signed a deal for 5 records? So, that is 3 until that time (if we include live in London)

So, that is 3 until that time (if we include live in London) you're probably right but with lower than expected sales due to poor promotion, deals are easily broken. Hopefully in the coming months we will find out more!

For this to be true Simon would have had to have finished the lyrics and them have recorded and mixed the whole album. But the last status we had at the end of last year was that they would be finishing it in the new year I think. So I think it's not true.
