Wow, watching this board just implode as this thread progresses is just highly amusing to me. The only thing I saw in all of it that made any sense was this. Yes, the rock rod jokes are damn old. I mean really, NONE of that has to do with his musical talent. Plain and simple. Newsflash to those that don't know, people in bands? They tend to have sex, and a lot of it, and they ENJOY it. Sorry to shock all of you that thought the members of DD were celibate. Warren was the only one that was open about it and liked to pose nude. Hell, if I looked like he did at the age he did those photos? I'd be showing that off too! However, his 9/11 stuff is wacky but then again, nothing to do with the music. No one's said the guy isn't highly talented (or if they did - I missed it). He absolutely is - so I think we're all in agreement with you. The point of some of the posts was that the guy is a bit out there. The "undoubtable" 9/11 conspiracy theories.......the rock rod........his ego. No one was trying to make a connection with that stuff and the music. It's just conversation. Your posts have been much more even keel lately Randal and less judgemental/accusatory. But instead of being a bit critical in a "let me get up on a soapbox, turn my nose up, and express how poor I find the conversation" (and you're not the worst here who does that) - why not just take the conversation in a different and better direction? Kinda like MissNovemberTuesday did this morning? She did a good job of trying to get the thread back on track (with me sharing a lot of the blame for it getting out of hand). You got quite a few shout outs this week, not because everyone agreed with everything you wrote - but because you wrote it in an non-judgemental, conversational way where folks could engage you. I'll probably screw up here and sound like I'm giving you a back handed compliment....and that's not how I mean it.......but I like this side of you alot better than what you've shown us before. Who wants to come on the board just to hate other people or get in verbal catfights? Sometimes.....a few folks on here just seem MISERABLE and wantin' to spread that misery instead of enjoy each other's company. Guess what I'm saying is......if the gals wanna post pictures of John Taylor.....whats the harm? If a few knuckleheads (raising hand) wanna make jokes about the Rock Rod.....who cares if it's "old"? Most of us are in our 30s and 40s andl on a fckuing Duran Duran message board. We're all gettin' old. The one thing everybody has in common is that we're all lame. Lol. (Yes Bloodshift - laugh tracks, bad spelling, and syntax be damned <grin>).

Well, I'll talk about whatever I damn well please -- BUT -- you'll notice my last post about Rock Rod was a JOKE. Ergo, that's why I put the ;-) (wink) at the end of it. Prior to that -- which is the important part of my last post -- I basically said "let's get back on topic".
None of this is directed at you, Tange...as I'm sure you know. It's directed at "Randall".

I just finally got around to reading this interview. I was never a Warren fan and after reading this I'll definitely never be a Warren fan. He comes across so bitter. I guess it's surprising to see someone old enough to be my parent hold such a grudge. Had I been the one asking the questions I would've said "ever notice the difference between Andy Taylor's guitar work in "Life Goes On" off his Thunder album and your (Warren's) guitar work on "Ordinary World." I'd like to see the response to that question.

I don't think Randal meant anything this time. It's just all this "perched on a thrown" language that kills me.....the whole, "I find blah blah blah amusing". Just the whole "I am here to be a critic" vibe, vs. just hanging out and yackin. And it's not even Randal this time that is doing that......I kinda appreciate Randal's effort to be more approachable. A good healthy debate is awesome.......and personally I love that. But hell - I bet if I went back and read my own posts I'd find quite a few "I find it amusing...." type entries - so.....what do I know? Curses! Btw - I don't think we're allowed to use LOLs, winks, <grins> (a personal favorite of mine), or that kinda stuff anymore. I think someone made a rule. I kinda liked having my own personal laugh track too. Hmmmmm. Those were good times.

Yeah, he makes some good points...I'm not doubting or denying that. Even on the RR issue it's a good point (no pun intended). I was planning on dropping it anyway actually (since, even to me, it had run it's course)...ergo, my "Let's get back on topic" point... What's the point of having emoties if you can't use them? And for that matter...why...would anyone outlaw the use of them?

Warren's ego is his biggest liability.....same as the other past and present members of the band.

So none of this is a big deal. Andy and Warren are rivals who have the benefit of never really meeting. Which makes it easy to goof on eachother of course. They both see eachother as rivals; I remember Andy being dismissive talking about Warren carrying his gear, and I think he did not even refer to him by name.
And Warren critisising Andy's playing of his classic trax? Kind of over the top yes, but considering the fact that he's probably wishing Andy would at least take those two important songs a little seriously, it's understandable the way he feels. Andy can play those songs in any way - he's good - but Warren is a very precise GTR player. And being an amateur player myself I do get the impression that Andy plays OW sort of offhand, like it's not difficult. And it's not, unless you want to play it as Warren does.
Warren is obviously a very emotional guy. which is good. Thats why his feelings run so deep. I'm sure it must have really stung that they did not want him backstage and did not come to his restaraunt. I'm not judgemental at all about complicated personal stuff like this, especially when you can't know all the details. But that seems pretty machiavellian and indiffensible. Maybe someone thought they were being smart promotion wise, or maybe Andy put up a fight, who knows. But no matter how you look at it, it would have been great to have their friend, business partner, and fellow musician who helped keep them alive long enough to make a original reunion relevant - to hang backstage. They should have had there after-party at his restaraunt. Besides the fact it would have been cool, it would have been a nice gesture. And it would have been no sacrifice.
Heck, while touring the world for a few years, they should have asked Warren to get up on stage for the encore every time they were in SoCal. That would have been great - couple songs with or without andy - maybe one without. Totally appropriate and no threat to Andy at all. And all this coming from someone who thinks Andy totally rocks and is a true original. But its really understandable warren is the way he is - all the years he put in, and he obvious is thankful for everything, that makes it hurt more man. We have all been there. And to him, Andy has come and gone as he pleases, not being as thankful as him, etc etc....
Warren is opinionated, so I don't think it's that bad that he is still affiliated with DD but is critical. Many of us make fun of Nick when he is over-diplomatic. And we complain that we don't get "real news" and stuff is sugar coated. Let Warren say what he wants. He's screwing with andy a bit, but it's obvious he is supportive of his other bros.
But in the end, I hope Warren Chills. And I think Andy did nothing wrong to him.
But I think all this drama will make it more all the sweeter to see them play together on stage at the rock and roll hall of fame. And trust me, they will play together and they will get in. Even if DD don't get the respect, they are running out of bands to nominate. 20 yrs ago no rock purists ever thought they would get to abba, but alas - by the time it happened it was a no brainer. And as far as multiple band members and overlapping line-ups? Most bands are a mess. Either people are missing because of death or lawsuits, or there is a shitload of people up onstage from all stages of the band. It's totally natural to be all inclusive now...
And and Warren both Rock!!!!
