Simon's on holiday in Ibiza. Roger's just coming off a DJ gig. Not sure about Nick or John. Nick might be putting finishing touches on the album.

Nick and John have gone on a fishing holiday together in the Norfolk Broads.

I heard they had bought some paint and Nick was working on painting the yacht used in the Rio video for a new Russell Mulcahy video to promote the new album.
Seriously tho......no telling. I'd imagine their management is busy trying to get the new record set up for release. It'll be an interesting release to see how they promote it and what kind of reaction/interest the album receives from the media and the public. I doubt the album will pick up new fans but wonder if it will win back some old fans that have jumped ship.

I suspect they are all on Ibiza on bended knee begging Andy back.
((Laughs uproariously))

Who is going to be doing the promoting? Does Duran Duran have a label?

Who is going to be doing the promoting? Does Duran Duran have a label? Simon has said they're going to self release, but I reckon anything's possible. John talked about wanting to be reunited with their catalogue on EMI, so wonder if there's anything going on on that front. As far of promotion.....Duran are established and can essentially promote themselves. They'll likely look for some partnerships (they were in talks with I-tunes a while back I believe). They can do radio shows, tv appearances, print media, etc. Their management handles that stuff even when they're on a major label. Not being on a major label could potentially free them up to do whatever they want......maybe pick less commercial sounding songs for tv performances, etc. I still say they should promote songs that are less typical single fare. They need to build an audience and the same old/same old trendy single oriented stuff isn't going to attract many new fans to a band that's been around for 30 years. Unusual, well crafted songs on the other hand would generate interest. Ordinary World caught on in part because no one expected that kind of song from Duran (and hell, it was just a great instantly engaging song to boot). Inn no way am I suggesting another Ordinary World - they've already tried that too many times.....I just mean something different. Box Full O'Honey from RCM would have fit the bill. Michael, Undergoing Treatment, or Midnight Sun from Medazzaland.....that kinda stuff. The song they've talked about with the celloist sounds really interesting and seeing clips of him on youtube, he'd be a great addition to perform with them in tv promotion.

Totally agree there Tangey boy. The only time Duran Duran should release a slow ballad is if it is as good as Ordinary World. Since OW they have released Perfect Day, Out Of My Mind, Someone Else Not Me, What Happens Tomorrow, and Falling Down. NONE of them are as good as Ordinary World; Out Of My Mind and What Happens Tomorrow are strong, but the rest are as boring as batshit. Basically like Tange said they should release their best music. Nobody in this day and age knows what is going to be a hit and what isn't - releasing the most "commercial-sounding" song isn't necessarily going to work for a bunch of 50 year-old men regarded by most people as 80s has-beens. And if you go through the "best song on RCM" threads then arguably Box Full O' Honey tends to be listed the most, with probably She's Too Much, The Valley, and Red Carpet Massacre next in line (note there generally isn't much love for the TnT inspired Falling Down, Nite Runner, and Skin Divers, although most people thought they'd make the best singles purely for the associated big-name factor). And I know we now have the advantage of hindsight, but hypothetically I can't see Box Full O' Honey, She's Too Much, The Valley, or Red Carpet Massacre doing any worse than the pitiful Falling Down did. Like most people on this board I don't really care if Duran chart or not. It won't make or break me. BUT... if the band want it, and if charting is going to make them happier as artists, increasing their longevity which leads to more future albums and tours, then I DO want it for them. The selfish part of me wants Duran Duran to stay together and keep making music for the rest of their lives, and if a chart-single/album is going to do that, then that is what I wish for! So just say the band DO want to make a splash in the charts again, perhaps have another number one single and album? It won't be easy. Some would say impossible. But if this is going to happen, I would say it will be with the BEST song/s from their new album, not necessarily the most commercial sounding songs from their new album. If this is a ballad so be it. If it is a fast rock number so be it. But it has to be catchy, instantly get into your head, and sound like Duran Duran to have any chance of chart success.

Thanks coolbarn. Yep, it's not about charting anymore. Legacy bands/artists that have stood the test of time and who continue to be successful are the ones who have built audiences. It takes time and consistency. With Duran, there's often too much emphasis on the style of the songs vs. the songs themselves. Box Full O'Honey is one of those little songs that doesn't beat you over the head trying to get your attention......it's just a good song. When I buy a Springsteen record, I'm not looking for Born In The USA for the 30th time......I know I'm going to get an album with interesting lyrics and a band that has a broad canvas to musical ideas to pull from. Imagine if Springsteen tried gimicky/marketing tricks with each release. No one would take him seriously.......he'd seem desperate. Good songs will find an audience, and enough good songs will build a sizable one. Singles/radio play charts are pretty meaningless in this day and age. Album charts? That's a better indicator of true success because it means folks are interested in a body of work, not just one song.
