I doubt the band was banking solely on name recognition, at least in the US, since Ronson doesn't really have any here.
It's not like RCM, when they all but admitted that they were counting on Timbaland's and Justin Timberlake's cache to move sales.
However, if the "effect" is that Ronson helped them create memorable, quality music, then it'll be good no matter when they release it. Even if nobody knows Ronson, they WILL know good music when they hear it, and that's what will sell albums.

The "effect" has been keeping DD's name in the press for the past couple of months on a regular basis.

Secondly, even if the new album didn't sell, it wouldn't be of any concern to us. This album is our album. It's one that's really just for the hardcore fans, hence why it sounds like the first two albums. If it sells respectably, then that's just a bonus. However, judging by what I've heard of the new album so far, you'd have to be tone deaf to dislike it. It's going to be a stunning record. It deserves to be successful.

I think Mark Ronson would be pretty surprised to hear that the album he's been working on isn't intended to be bought by anyone except diehard fans. Even though DD is definitely on the back half of their careers, I'm sure they're hoping to sell a FEW more albums than RCM did, at least...
That said, I'll be interested to see how DD market this album, given that they have no label and zero momentum. It's going to be very hard for them to get any press at all, let alone enough to get people to give the album a try. Guess we'll see.

Well, nothing is going to help sales. I don't think anyone believes the band is going to ever have commercial success again. At this point, we should just be happy they are still making music. The quality of the next album won't matter one bit when it comes to sales. I mean, we should all know by now the quality of the album has little to do with sales. All we can hope for is an enjoyable album. Well said Randal. I pretty much have to agree with this.
