Well, nothing is going to help sales. I don't think anyone believes the band is going to ever have commercial success again. At this point, we should just be happy they are still making music. The quality of the next album won't matter one bit when it comes to sales. I mean, we should all know by now the quality of the album has little to do with sales. All we can hope for is an enjoyable album. I agree too. And I wish Duran would realize this as well and be content with just making great music instead of trying to find commercial success. I wish they would just age with a little dignity instead of trying their hand at every musical trend that comes around. If they make a great album that's not trying so hard to be trendy, which I know they can, people WILL buy it.

Ronson has stated that this album "won't win over any new fans" if they don't like the early stuff. The best shot at commercial success is to get this album in front of the casual fans who haven't bought a DD album since 1985. The challenge will be getting it in front of them. It can be done. There is precedent. That said, I have zero expectations in terms of sales. I'm just hoping for a strong album that the fans love...

The only prayer Duran Duran has a chart success (IMO), right now, is if Mark Ronson releases the song "record collection" - since it obviously features Simon - and goes to number 1 (at least in England) and then they release a single after that song is played out. It "could" happen then if they release a really good song, but even then it doesn't mean it will.

If they make a great album that's not trying so hard to be trendy, which I know they can, people WILL buy it. I actually hope they never, ever realize that because the day they do, its all over for them. If they give up trying to reach a broad audience, what's the point when even they figure out no one wants to hear their music anymore? Thanks for missing the point of my message which was, basically, no one cares WHAT DD puts out anymore, as far as the general public goes. It doesn't matter what they release, even if they put out something that would be the modern version of their 1st 3 albums put together it would not matter. DD, as a commercial entity, is done. They will never have big success again, however, when they quit trying, its time to call it quits. I think you missed my point as well. I think the reason commercial success has been fleeting for them is because they try too hard to attain it. The effort becomes contrived and therefore doesn't work. If they just concentrated to doing work that is original and true to themselves, and don't try and mimic the latest trends, then I really think they will get the recognition they want. But I do understand what you said. Duran as a brand seems to have run its course. So even if they wrote and performed songs exactly like ________(whoever is topping the charts now), as long as it had the label "Duran Duran" people would not be interested. I don't agree, but I understand.

I agree with the realization [or fact?] that DD, as a commercially recognized and successful band, is virtually over. Then again, stranger things have happened when they found surprising success with OW and TWA. Though it's too late now with this album considering it's pretty much done....but should they make another....this can be the best time, with out the pressure of commercial success, or if they remain without a label, to really allow themselves to be creative musically, maybe do something unconventional. Stop bringing in people to help them out, and let themselves feel unrestricted musically...perhaps it's just a fantasy at this point.

Stop bringing in people to help them out, and let themselves feel unrestricted musically...perhaps it's just a fantasy at this point. But, isn't bringing in other people, working with other musicians, etc.. being unrestricted? I mean, that is what they did with the Arcadia project (and, in a way, Power Station was similar), not feeling restricted to the whole "we can only use the people in the band" restriction. Open themselves up to outside musicians, outside drummers, guitarists, etc... I would think that would be the BEST way to be unrestricted musically. In fact, I think bringing in outside people is the best thing they can do for themselves creatively and artistically. At this point, they have nothing to lose. Conceptually, yes, bringing in outside people can potentially change the band's sound, creativity, etc, as RCM displayed. But also, I feel that in bringing in others, the band restricts its own creativity and style by the influence of others. I kind of wish and want DD to be just DD. I would hope that having been writing and performing for over 30 years, they would have a firm grasp on concept of sound and formulating their own music. I was excited with Nick and Warren created TVmania....on their own. A deviation from a DD sound, but in some ways still containing some DD DNA. I feel the band can do this on their own. And with little to no risk left, why not take the chance? Allow them to return to their true roots, not this "return to the Rio sound" bullshit. Without sounding too selfish, it would be a nice parting gift to the fans who have stuck around...till the end.
